I’ve been suffering with T now for some years. Here lately I’ve been noticing the noises are much louder especially at night. I’m learning how to deal with this. I’m so surprise that a cure hasn’t been found yet.
New to site: I’ve been suffering with T now for... - Tinnitus UK

Welcome to this site ,Here you will find many of us in the battle of learning to live with tinnitus . Most of us are suffering at different levels , we all learn how to live with tinnitus . It is a great comfort to know that we are not alone. I do hope that you will find it as useful and comforting on here as I have found it . Tinnitus is distressing and I thoroughly agree with you too that there should be some sort of a cure. I think because it is such a varied and complicated condition that it may take many more years before we see such a change. I hope that your coping alright . 😊
A very warm welcome NoiseBeGone Everything Penny says . One other thing - Have you had a hearing test lately? My T increased substantially when my hearing dropped . It might be worth checking it out 📣
Welcome NoiseBeGone. Here you are among a community who know what you’re feeling, when others around you don’t really understand.
If you are finding increasing distress then (assuming you’re in the UK) your doctor might be able to help - no cure though! Don’t believe any advertisements you see unless they are endorsed by reputable charities.
But before you make an appointment, if you do decide to, please have a browse through the excellent website of the British tinnitus Association. Especially the ‘do-it-yourself’ course called Take On Tinnitus explaining how you can help yourself.
Personally I find hearing aids do help (as doglover says) and walking in the open air, particularly among trees where you can hear wind, birds and even rain.
In my case things have improved, or should I say I have learned to cope with my Tinnitus better. I remember the time I dreaded going to bed, a couple of times sat on the bed all night wishing for daylight to come.
following advise from my audiologist I am falling into a reasonable sleep pattern, when I tell friends that I sleep until about 5 am, they say, "That is better than me".
I have another appointment with my audiologist Friday.
The human body is brilliant at adapting to these challenges, just give it a chance it takes time.
Take Care
Mike
Hi I’ve just been exploring YouTube to see if there is anything which might help me deal with this awful complaint. I came across a video by a Dr Alan Mandell and tried the exercises he was demonstrating and I truly think they may help so I will continue to use them and see how I go. I’m new to this website and it certainly gives me some comfort to be able to share with others how tinnitus takes over
Hi NoiseBeGone - that is a great name!
Fellow tinnitus sufferer here. Lots of support on this forum and I've learnt a lot.
I have a variety of coping strategies depending on the stage I'm at - total silence, radio on quiet, music channels on TV, distracting activities, reading (if I can concentrate) cinnarzine travel sickness tablet (sparingly used) and I have an inner narrative - I sound out my thoughts to myself and silently address the tinnitus 'oh you're back again?'
Might some wacky but whatever helps. I hope you get some respite. It is extremely under-researched I feel. It certainly makes us more resilient. All the best. Lindsay 😊
One of the biggest challenges is for researchers to gain meaningful results from the input data they have. The BTA is planning on setting up a Tinnitus Bio Bank which could supply very detailed data which could massively help researchers to gain more meaningful results which should hopefully result in big pharma finally getting involved. There will be more news about the Bio Bank in the new year.
If you are interested in latest research, the latest update from the BTA research officer is here tinnitus.org.uk/blog/tinnit...
