Third Trimester of Pregnancy - T Spike!

Hello,

I just wanted to share my experience since my last post on the forum. My T started this year in January during a mental health breakdown (a contributory cause of the breakdown). I started CBT, as it was identified I in fact suffer from severe Health Anxiety. The CBT really helped me to learn how to program my thoughts so as not to get into a deep dark hole of ‘what if’s’ and focus on facts & the here & now. I also read some amazing books on managing health related anxiety - in turn, my tinnitus dulled & over the course of 3-6 months it wasn’t a bother anymore even though I could still hear it when the environment was quiet or in an enclosed space.

I am now in the third trimester of pregnancy & this is the loudest my tinnitus has been since Jan/Feb, I have read that pregnancy itself is a contributory factor to tinnitus spikes due to increased blood flow in the body, and also of course approaching the pending experience of ‘giving birth’ I assume my health anxiety is starting to go through the roof which is making my T spike. I hope it will be a temporary spike, and not a permanent increase in volume. Let’s see.

Hi Holly. Good to hear your news. It sounds as if you manage your T very well. You're aware of how it works & how to cope with it. Perhaps you could address the health anxiety again - just as you did earlier in the year - and you may find some relief. I believe spikes are usually temporary . All the best as you wait for your little one 🙂

Thank you, Hla20, for posting this. You’ve shown how T can be overcome: it may never disappear entirely but it can become just one of life’s many little difficulties. All the best for the rest of your pregnancy and birth and for the joy of your new baby.

I am lead to believe that giving birth is a very stressful time, therefore it is hardly surprising that your Tinnitus has spiked, hopefully everything will settle down.Congratulations on your addition to the family.

Take care
