Things are getting worse : Hi all I’m still here... - Tinnitus UK
Things are getting worse
When you have nausea, assuming it’s labyrinthitis or BPPV, I’m afraid it takes at least ten days to wear off. The tablets cannot cure, they just make things slightly more bearable. The good news is that it does wear off eventually, though you may need manipulation to help it along (the eply procedure) which your doc will offer you if you’re still unwell after two or three weeks, The eply is a bit of a nuclear option and not to be undertaken lightly.
Hi Sarah, I'm sorry to read that your tinnitus is getting you down, please give us a call if you can - 0800 018 0527. We're ready to chat and can try and help you get through this current period. I do want to reassure you that tinnitus can get better and that we can try and find some management techniques to help you with your tinnitus.
If you are struggling and finding your tinnitus distressing, please also remember that you can call the Samaritans on 126 123. As they are good listeners and have a lot of expertise in supporting people who need some additional help. Additionally Health Unlocked's guide - support.healthunlocked.com/... - also contains resources that can support you whatever time you need help.
Hi Sarah. Good to see you again. You're not alone here - we all know what it's like . It's not easy to believe that things will get better in the early days but they gradually do. Surprisingly so. Don't think in terms of weeks or months. Just take one day at a time. One of the best things you can do is talk to someone . The BTA are just a phone call away ..
Hi Sarah, good to hear from you, as Pat says give the BTA a buzz as they are great with advice and verbalising to someone who understand T may help you decompress a bit. Again if things are getting really tough please give Samaritans and/or MIND a call as again they can be of great help and comfort when we are in distress.
As Doglover and HappyRosie say we have all gone through distressing times with our T, as time goes on things should get better. I always live by the adage 'it WILL pass' when I felt low about my T and it always did.
Have you thought about joining an online BTA support group, there is no pressure to say anything but I think you may find them useful to hear how others are dealing with their T plus the empathetic fellowship (the group all know what you are going through) can be of great comfort. tinnitus.org.uk/online-supp...
I've just been going back through some of your earlier posts, Sarah. Is your GP aware of the BAAP physicians' list? baap.org.uk/uploads/1/1/9/7... - There are a number of balance and tinnitus specialists on that list who could be referred to or contacted on your behalf?
It's good to see you back and the offer still stands for you to talk to us about tinnitus if you feel able to.
Take care.
They can refer you - indeed, they should be offering to refer you to a specialist team if your issues can't be managed at GP level. There's a limited amount that GPs can do about tinnitus, but they are not the end point by any means - they're the first part of a treatment journey.
It is up to you, but try not to feel as though things have reached a full stop - the options to get help are still there and you have rights as an NHS patient to be referred to sources of support which can help. Even if that's with external practitioners - if the type of support needed isn't met by your local health authority.
Take care,
Pat
Hi Sarah Louise, I've just found this. type in the below plus your district Shropshire Lincolnshire (so " tinnitus Hertfordshire"). whichever is your county. I had once to seek a second opinion, by going direct to the experts. I don't know these, but i get a good feeling from them. Just remember to ask costs (which there may not be).Its time you pushed yourself to the main people, avoiding doctors. Don't accept nothing. I was so glad i went a different route.
You can do this. But please ring the BTA today, they may have the key to that door.
oops, this was supposed to be in my prev message above...........thetinnitusclinic.co.uk/hel...
I hesitate to say this Spurdog .. but I'm not so sure. The clinic seem to be offering to speed up habituation . Is this possible? Even so it would be an expensive way of doing what the brain can do on it's own. Given time & space. Sorry to be negative.
we all have opinions, i agree it doesn't suit me. Or you. But, just in case....
You're right. Always good to consider all the options 🙂
No, i'm not. I am just concerned for our friend. I just know for a fact we can sidestep GP's (and not necessarily by going to another). I am not convinced that is the answer. You may be absolutely spot on. I had a problem and contacted a charity. They put me in direct touch with the NHS specialist, who found the problem and corrected it. BTA please note, can you help that way?
Hi Sarah Louise - I have tinnitus and this is my first post on this site. I was concerned for you when I read your post and whilst I have no specific useful advice to add, I was so heartened by all the other replies you've had, including wellbeing support from other agencies as well as the British Tinnitus Association. Hope you are feeling less isolated and more supported and that things improve for you sooner than you think. Best wishes "Veecat".
Sarah Louise, I've done a bit of research. Some public bodies are a bit "hit and miss", whereas the NHS seems one of the best stops. if you catch my drift. BTA seems the best option by far. We "listen to text", whereas the BTA can make so much better judgements by TALKING TO YOU, soooo much better.I've seen people go into A&E with cut fingers, so applying logic why can't you go to A&E? We're told to open up about mental issues, so why can't it be an a&e problem (they are trying to shield I know). But if you were excessively bleeding, or in distress so much, i cannot see the difference.
We are limited on here but BTA is not. And at night-time samaritans. I do so feel for you.
But again it's been quiet for 2-3 days.
Please don’t give up keep praying 🙏🙏 have you tried anything for anxiety ?
Listening to oscillating fan noise, frequency sweeps, neuromodulation help me. Do it in a quiet room just yourself. Stay focus
