My T is so loud 24/7 cant sleep naturally at night.

I have had low level T for many years but been able to sleep ok. Since I put olive oil in both ears to prepare for a syringe (by water injection at the GP) - I have had ear ache and my T got louder. My blood pressure went up to 150/100. Since syringe, my louder T has continued. I am using Sleepeaze from Boots to help sleep at night.

Hi had no one not told you ear syringing is the Worse thing for Tinnitus I get my ears micro suctioed never get water in your ears in the shower or swimming use ear protection like cotton wool in the shower also if you have to put olive oil ears in don't flood your ears with oil only put in 2-3 drops in each ear .

My T was so mild for several years that I never brought this up with my GP. I have had ear syringing by water jet for a number of years every 6 months. Just this bad reaction this time . My GP gave me (reluctantly)14 tablets of Zopiclone - to use when desperate. Boots recommended Sleepeaze which work ok most of the time. Herbal sleep aid tablets do make me yawn but will not put me to sleep. I do tend to put more than 2-3 olive oil drops in ears - so that is great advise for anyone. Also good advice to keep water out of ears - I tend not to do that too. Thanks for taking time out for your reply.

👍

Only happy to help it's all down to managing your Tinnitus .

Firstly, hope you are well Barnsley2

Quote from your OP: "my T got louder. My blood pressure went up to 150/100. "

I wonder if there's a link - maybe the blood pressure was the real culprit in all of this? I mean, maybe stress was behind it?

I remember when GPs used to push Zopiclone on us (at university) and hardly anybody wanted it. Apparently it's now a drug of abuse? I'm surprised, it has almost no redeeming features.

If l didn't manage to sleep right away, it paradoxically kept me up all night, but not proper alert, just zombified. No matter how many more pills l would take.

The Boots product sounds way better, seems to be an antihistamine? My sleeping tablet is Amitryptiline (prescription only), which l take only rarely. Apparently it's quite safe.

Sleep is often a problem if your T . increases all of a sudden. This was my experience last year. I thought it was the noise keeping me awake but I slowly realised it was the anxiety. If you can address the way you feel you'll be able to sleep - even with loud T. I'd recommend CBT if you can access it. Talking is very helpful. All the best.

I try to meditate at night in bed before trying to settle down after taking a Sleepeaze tablet from Boots. However T is so loud it is impossible to ignore it and it could take me sometimes 2-3 hours to fall asleep. I have tried to fall asleep with no pill aids - but I just lay awake all night getting more anxious and I pay for it next day and the 2-3 days after with worse T.

My T is so loud and high pitched! I had an appointment with the private TINNITUS CLINIC in Leeds - I was diagnosed with ACUTE T and I have lost hearing in both ears with high frequency levels. I have become super sensirive to loud noises - sirens, motorway traffic, alarms. They suggested I waited 12 weeks before we re-assess next step.

I can sort of cope with T in the day (though it makes hearing people on the phone difficult) - but it is so loud at night - hard to focus out! Low level music or masking does not work to reduce loudness or high pitch. If meditation at night does not work - do you think CBT might not work either?

If you had CBT - what aspects helped you.

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.

Hi there. I have loud high pitched T. in my right ear due to profound hearing loss. Last year I honestly thought I would never sleep again. I took phenegan twice a week at my worst. I endured lots of sleepless nights too. Low level sound didn't work - as you say. I read a book called Living with Tinnitus & Hyperacusis at the end of the year. It helped me understand tinnitus much better. I then started to sleep. Just a little better at first and gradually I've returned to nearly normal sleep patterns. I'm just starting CBT . It's very helpful. I wish I'd done it earlier.

Hi dog lover. Sorry Iv not been on here for a few weeks. Have you had your jab. How did it go. I took your advice and crawled up that big black hole I was falling down. I listened to pink noise to get my hypercus down. It helped. Thank you. How are you all doing.

Hi again. Just replied to you on previous thread . I'm glad you're on the way up! I haven't had my jab yet. Still dithering .. T. has made me rather indecisive.

CBT didn't work for me .

Sorry to hear that Glen. Have you found things that work for you? Very early days for me. I think I just like having someone to talk to in person. It's very reassuring.

I feel have to be happy with CBT for it to work, it's not like a sleeping pill, where it doesn't matter what you think of it, you're going to sleep anyway.

I think it's important to say: it's okay to say CBT didn't work for you - otherwise if you feel you must say it's working, then it definitely won't work, you'll just be pleasing CBT practitioners not the other way round, and going home with the same problems as ever.

For me: CBT has never worked - but l'm always open to it and it's nice to know it's worked for some. Maybe something else would work for me, like the Mr Rossi lyrics:

"the tray of ice cream cones,

A coco castle for a home,"

at a beautiful sunny resort. Or maybe it's just the timing and l should try CBT later.
