Advice and support? Hello. My tinnitus started one month ago. First in my left ear and now both (mainly still the left). Mainly a low hiss, but sometimes a tone. I have had two hearing tests and have no hearing problems. My tinnitus was mainly with me, but I had some days when it disappeared completely. I've come to a possible conclusion that it may have been caused due to a cessation of the drug alprozolam (xanax). I had been taking it for several years though low doses and not everyday for insomnia, but had recently started to reduce it as I was prescribed another medicine Amyltriptine before my tinnitus started. I stopped taking everything but when I started again it went. I realise this is very complex and you won't have answers. But I wondered if anyone could help direct me to some useful advice on what to do next. The web is a hell hole on this issue I don't want to go there. I am British but currently living and working in Thailand which complicates things. I am keeping a record of the drugs I take each day and the effects. Yesterday I didn't take xanax and had extremely loud tinnitus all day. Last night and today I did and has disappeared completely for now as I write now Tinnitus free.

Xanax withdrawal causing my T. Stops completely when I take it!
Personally I feel that help for someone on benzodiazepines is best done by a medical professional. Other forumites might give a different opinion
I have tinnitus in one ear and it is a low hiss that comes and goes. I also take Xanax but I had the tinnitus first. My guess is that anxiety is causing your tinnitus. I read somewhere that we are hearing our own nervous system and when we get upset it gets louder. This could be why when you take Xanax your tinnitus goes away because it relaxes you, Have your tried meditation, exercise or music to help calm you and see if that works to quiet the tinnitus? what about CBD? They have some just for anxiety that I have been told works extremely well. There are ones without THC or very low THC so you don't get high. I would also suggest counseling if its available to you.
