I have Tinnitus in one ear. It sounds like whooshing and it is usually worse at night when I am trying to sleep. I have no pain or hearing loss. Why is this and what can I do?

hi .i have the same problem ,ringing in my left ear only ,its in time with my heart beat which is called pulsatile tinnitus. is yours in time with your heart beat ,you can check your pulse and see if it is or mot . i had MRI to rule out acoustic neuroma and any tumours which came back clear ...if you havnt already i would contact your doctor and see what they say ..how long have you had the whooshing sound ?

No it's not in time with my heart beat. It's only been about a week and I tried contacting a doctor but they won't allow people in and only offer telephone appointments at the moment due to Covid19 so they wouldn't be able to do anything as they won't be able to see me to actually get a look

i wasnt seen personally either ,i had a telephone consultation and was referred for MRI ...perhaps you just have some wax build up ,try putting some warm olive oil in your ear this will move the wax after a few days and this is all you might need to do ...try wearing soft wax ear plugs at night ,this really helps with the noise of tinnitus.

Hi romana.

Yes my tinnitus is worse at night.it is for most ppl.this is because when it is silent all around the tinnitus is not being drowned out from external noise.

I also get the whooshing sound.

I call it hearing silence.it can be a bi product of the tinnitus.

If the tinnitus is of a high frequency there also I believe has to be a low frequency.

I’ve always wondering what the whooshing sound is.perhaps it’s the air that you can hear or the workings of the brain.

I’m seeing my specialist on the 27th of this month.i will ask him and I’ll try to remember to get back to you.

I’m having great fun at the moment as over the last month I have started to get a very faint tinnitus in my other ear now.

I can cope with one ear.i just except it now and I just ignore it but having it in both ears I think may make me stir crazy

Hi it depends on your age? And wether you can be bothered to fix it. Do you smoke?

I'd rather not discuss my age but I'll say that I'm 19-25 age range (all I'm willing to say) .I don't smoke and of course want to fix it if possible.

Hi Romana

I’ve not forgetten about you.

So the tinnitus whooshing noise can be a bi product of the hi frequency you are hearing

Like when you hear a cars engine but also you hear it’s tires running on the tarmac when it’s a hot summers evening

I hope that helps
