Is it honestly true Fx-322 drug is only gonna be for late deafened people?

I've read their aiming to cure or treat those with noise induced hearing loss, and age related hearing loss but I was born with severe hearing loss. I have a mixture of conductive and sensinorial hearing loss. My tinnitus was mild to non existent most of my life til it got alot louder 5 months ago. Didnt lose anymore hearing from my tests so I'm hoping this Fx-322 would eighter cure my sensinorial hearing loss and my tinnitus would diminish but I havent seen a cure for conductive hearing loss coming anytime soon. Am I screwed if I was born with hearing loss? Are they never gonna cure those born with hearing loss??

Hi Alugo. I think cure is a very loaded word - it means different things to different people. Something which will eradicate tinnitus is still far off in the distance, and why we are focusing our financial resources onto cure research.

When there's a lot of momentum, resource and desire to find a cure for a condition, we get the current climate around Covid-19 - we're hearing about the drug trials and projects going on because it affects so many people. Tinnitus doesn't have that momentum, largely as it affects people so differently.

My reading of the drug trial for Fx-322 is that it shows promise, but is still a few years from being a concrete treatment, even if development and trials go without a hitch. I suspect Covid-19 will delay Frequency Therapeutics work slightly, but it's still in play.

Hi Pat,

When I first saw an audiologist twenty years ago, at UCSF (San Francisco) he said my T was a result of the cilia in my ear being knocked down like trees in a forest being blown over but they can't stand up again. The sound sensation is created by conductivity between two hairs when they make contact. If the stay in contact, the sensation is permanent.

His advice was to think of it as my friend, and to listen to soft music to mask the noise.

My most recent visit, two years ago to audiology at UCSF, yielded a different explanation. With FX-322, it sound like this company in Massachusetts is using something like Rogain (SP?) to restimulate hair growth in the cochlear.

Are the old cilia still it the cochlear, and can they be revitalized to stand up again, or do they hope to grow new hairs??

If they can restore the cilia, will the brain stop fabricating false sound sensation?
