Ive had tinnitus in my left ear for a year of so, it flairs up and down (but I have never been able to identify what the trigger is). I have had a brain scan and nothing significant to report from that. But the only thing about me is I am able to change the volume and pitch of the noise when I apply pressure to my earlobe.
If there is anyone with some experience or any suggestions I would love to hear from you.
Kind Regards
Roy

Hi DustyRN. I have exactly the same symptoms. Left ear only, comes and goes.
I can’t alter it with the earlobe but I can make it disappear briefly if I push the Tragus.
I was also getting a lot of headache pain radiating around the neck, ear, eyes and into the head. I also had a brain scan which came back fine. I also had an eye and hearing test which showed no significant problems.
I went to an ENT specialist and he did the usual checks. Looked inside mouth and found evidence of me tensing without realising. There was also some evidence of teeth clenching and biting - which I must be doing in my sleep. I’ve consciously tried to relax the jaw and muscles when awake. Funny thing is, I never realised I was doing it.
I’m going to a physio today to look at whether the headache pain could be cervicogenic. It could all be related. I’ve certainly noticed my tinnitus is worse when I feel anxious or stressed.
Not sure if this helps but worth you knowing you’re not alone. I’ll keep you advised of any developments.
Sorry I can't help you. Never known anyone that can alter the pitch. Mine is just constant, though it's vanished a few times which is fantastic but the damned thing returns in the morning. Suppose I should be happy to get a few hours off.
