Seeking help for ear protection for a MRI scan

I have tinnitus and hypercussis and I had to get out of a scan after 10 minutes

of a 40 minute scan as I could no longer tolerate the noise, I am sure it was

way over 100 decibels and the hospital's ear protection was not effective

Sorry you had a bad experience. My hospital gave me the squishy ear plugs and ear defenders when I had mine done

Well, you need to have that scan and if it's a 40-minute jobbie, it's better than the type of scan that I suspect most of us T sufferers will have been offered/given, which lasts about 15 mins. Sounds like you may be scheduled for an MRI/venogram, which is the gold standard to look for blood flow anomalies as well as brain/neuromas.

I suggest you take some ear foam protectors with you (Boots, about £3). These squish right into your ears and are good at deadening sound. If you don't get on with foam plugs, try the swimmer's gold standard ear plugs, i.e. Macks aquablock ear plugs. They are on Amazon for again about £3. They are mouldable to one's particular ears and block everything out. I've used both, the foam for dry plugging, Macks for swimming.

Main thing is to go back and get that scan done!

Thanks very much for your reply

I certainly need the scan as it is to show if I have prostate cancer

I know about the foam ones which I did try for the scan and over that

the hospitals ear muffs but the protection was not sufficient for me

I will look at the Macks ear plugs

Thanks again
