Hi Emily, like you I've had T, hyperacusis and other ear stuff, we'll all feel your pain in here, I'm not fond of any meds, but if you fi d something that works, do your own research on it and go with it, results might not stay at a high standard, then you can try something else..
Good luck
CBD might be safest and help
Hi,I don't take any Meds as some can make it worse, and that I don't want.
I do however have the same problem with the TV,I have bone conduction head phones and play white noise on them at a lower level of noise to my tinnitus, but which I can also hear the TV,it helps a little bit.
When I last went to the hearing clinic I spoke to the councillor their who had never encountered this problem before, nor having to listen to white noise at the same time, guess we're all different eh 😁
Hi
My Dr prescribes me 1Mg of Extended
Release Aprazolam and helps to keep the T at a low level for me .
Hi many thanks for your reply. I guess a trip to see the GP. You don't know until you try
All the best
Emily
Do you feel the aprazolam has a direct impact on your T? As in, it reduces the loudness - or, your tinnitus would be louder if you weren't taking it?
Did your docs prescribe this specifically for your T or for something else?
I was taking Aprazolam for my Anxiety
And I found out by taking it my Tinnitus
Got way lower, enough so I can enjoy
Things that I could not enjoy before the medication. I googled medication for Tinnitus and Aprazolam was the most effective one without it my T does go back to a high pitch. kolonapin makes the T worse a lot of people say that and I did take them and it did make it worse.
But for me the extended Release
1 mg tablet Work the best
Hope this has helped a little
😊
Hi again - when you took the klonopin , how long did you take it for ? And when you stopped, did the T reduce back to your normal level ? ..... I’ve started them again and been on them 5 days . The T yesterday and today is at an all time high , but the Dr will not prescribe anything else .
Thanks in advance
Hi
I took them for about 2 weeks and the T just went off the wall ! I was in Aprazolam for the T before that but my dr retired and it was hard to find another dr to prescribe them again even though I was on it . As I said I went to at least 7 Drs who denied me and told me it was all in my head
So I went to a psychiatrist and he listened to me and after a hour he prescribed me the Aprazolam
1 mg extended Release. It lowers it
To a volume that I can function
Like I said it’s stated that this medication is used for treatment
If you research it. But with the
All the Drug Epidemic in the USA
Drs are scared to prescribe it now
So many people who are normal with pain and bad anxiety are being denied
Cause of the people who abuse these meds. But for me it’s the only med
That keeps it under control, it’s not
Gone but it’s at a low volume.
And I also suffer from high anxiety
Plus the T so it helps with both
Cause I think anxiety and T gonhand and hand
I wish you the best in finding this med
And hope it works the same for you

I did try and get Xanax but they refused and just laughed at me and said it was only a noise that was all in my head !!! He said go and see a psychiatrist, I he feels “I’ve got issues “ honestly, I could have punched him . My life was just fine before all of this crap . Looking forward to just having hubby and me at home as our son has just bought his first home . I’m only 52 .... We should be out going to theatres, Holidays, restaurants , cinema , but this beast is so LOUD, I can’t even hear the tv or any conversation. It’s worn me down until I’m a shell of my former self . 11 months and the condition has worsened ..... I don’t know how much longer I can hang on ? The clonazepam has sent mine off the scale but it allows me to sleep and a bottle of wine too .... what life is that ?
I can’t see any way forward.....
I’m so sorry to rant and off load but I’m so desperate for help xxx
Awww i am so very sorry to hear how much you are suffering . I've had my T and Hypercuses for three years now.. The first 15 months were hell on earth but I just put ear buds in and use a sound app on my phone shut myself away in the box room spend many nights crying myself to sleep.. My family didn't understand because anyone who has never experienced Tinnitus cant!!
But then I thought this is my life my family and I am not going to let this beat me!!
and as time went on and not getting upset or stressed, easily said I know! I found on busy days when my mind was occupied I didn't hear it at all, it's always there but I don't hear it i also found steroid tablets prescribed by my Gp for my asthma very helpful in lowering my T.
If you use a sound genarater or app in the background when the tv is on you probably won't hear your T.
Have you tried ear sound genarater s I have them prescribed by ENT worth trying.
All the best

Hi Emily - what is the brand or model of the sound generator you use? Any particular type of ear buds? I need to close my ear as sound waves when loud are a problem
I use Sony sports over ear buds like you I cannot let any sound in I use a sound app just below my T and I can now watch TV with the app playing low in my ears please make sure its LOW!
You can try Beltone Tinnitus Calmer see if that helps ,Have a look on the Google play store under tinnitus sound therapy most are free
Youtube Julian Crowan Hill
My generator is called Sound Oasis it was given to me by my local Tinnitus clinic but you can buy i on line.. i just plonk it in front of the tv very low
Your local NHS Tinnitus clinic should have devices you can try
I hope this helps I understand how unpleasant this affliction can be
All the best

Hello Emily. Can you send me the model details for your earbuds if that’s ok? What were the symptoms of your hypercausis? Hope u can help. Raj
Been researching and must admit never thought of ear buds ...some fancy devices with wireless and noise cancelling
Sony MDRAS210B £14. 99 from argos they still have them in stock.
I have tried alsorts of headphones and found all of the the Sony ones to be the best... hypercuses is just sensitivaty to sound making your tinnitus spike everything sets mine off, tv, mobile phones, micro wave, washing machine, fridge freezer, but everyone is different different sounds might set yours off.. Its important not to stop listening to those sound s as it can make the hypercuses more pernounced
If you shut sound out completely
Please let me know how you get on we are all here to support you!
All the best

Thanks Emily. I thought they were the wireless noise cancelling ear buds which also look nice ...does it keep sound out? Did you try any of the noise cancelling buds? Raj
Yes a few noise cancling head phones a few in store demonstrations but sadly i could hear my tinnitus most of the time but not with the in ear ones.. I am thinking of trying the new bone conducting head phones
they are very expensive! Although Christmas is just around the corner

I had to go to a Psychiatrist after 7 Drs refused me also and I was also told to deal with it ! Try and see one and tell him your anxiety and life is a mess due to this horrible affliction!
Don’t give up !
Hope all goes well and always hope you can find some Silence 🙏🏻

Hi, I understand what you’re saying about trying to get your family and friends to understand what you’re going through. Nobody can unless they have it, I also get what you’re saying about holidays, theatre etc. I have just cancelled a holiday to Malta as couldn’t fly because I also have a lot of ear pain. I did just go to the cinema and struggled through a film with ear plugs in..
So I just wanted to chip in here as I am a similar age and just get what you’re saying x
Hi .. I can totally relate to your frustration and good on you for trying so hard to not let this awful T get you down. I developed t three years ago after having a grommet put in. I had it taken in and out 3 times, a stapadectomy and I’m now onto my second cochlear implant ,, the first one was very painful. I try each day to block out the ringing , but lately it’s been getting to me and it’s all I can think about it. I do take something for my anxiety .., which helps a little bit. My poor suffering family and friends I’m sure are getting very sick of me. I’ve retired from teaching which is sad.
We can all help each other on this chatline .. I was off it for awhile ,, but just reading a few comments now. I use BOSE sleep ear phones at night and always have back ground music on. Hang in there , try to keep calm ... hopefully one day we will all hear silence again! Don’t know if this has made you better, but I’ve had heaps of pain too, so you aren’t alone with the frustrations ! Take care 😊😊
Hope it works out 😊
We all deserve a little Silence !

Hi Dennis , just a quick question. When you took clonazepam, for two weeks , did you have to taper off it ? I’ve been taking .5mg once a day and taken 12 tabs but it’s worsened the T ... Am I able to just stop it or now have to taper ??? It’s such a short time , but I don’t know ?
Cheers in advance

I have started a new drug trazodone only been on it two weeks it's for anxiety which was going through the roof hopefully this will help
Stress and anxiety does increase my T's intensity. I use a homoeopathic remedy made by Natura called Rescue. It definitely lowers the intensity to more acceptable levels. Obtainable across the counter with no perscription required.
Hi Derek
I am assuming I can get this this in a health food shop? do you know if it contains Valeria I have tried some products containing this before.
Anything is worth a try!
Many thanks and all the best
