Hi all.

Same here. I never heard of it before I got it after an ear infection that just wouldn’t budge and done a ton of reading and grabbing onto any tiny sliver of hope online about cures and treatments etc and then stumbled across this site and have been dealing with mine better. I have good days for a while then a series of bad days. But even at my worse there were people on here who were there to listen/read my moaning and capital lettered screaming and were able to keep me trucking.
I don’t know how I would’ve coped without this place and I’m glad that you’ve stumbled onto it as well. We will get through it and for me anxiety is a part of the problem but so was fear. My docs barely knew anything about it, neck people on here knew more about it than most of the docs I’ve seen but like I said this place helps a lot.
Welcome and my best advice is to be distracted and carry on living how u did before u got it. Read, watch tv, spend time with family. The bigger the distraction the longer I usually get a break (it’s still there but I don’t concentrate on it).
I agree and fear is an issue. It restricts me a lot and am missing ok holidays because of fear and isolates one...I have had this for nearly 25 years but my latest episode since Oct 2018 is worse as has restricted me...previously just carried on ...am so pleased came on this site as know am not alone
It’s a great site to be a part of and it has people who know the annoyance and mental challenge Tinnitus has on people.
Mental challenge is the worst as screws your mind up..fear...it’s only noise in the head
Yep. I hate when I have to explain to people why having a constant noise in my left ear playing all day long every day and have them say something like “meh I could deal with that” drives me nuts but I do think the best decision I made was to just carry on reading watching tv playing video games going for my walks etc. I’ve decided that no matter what I’m going to carry on and not let the ear demon beat me.
It’s a mental health trick I was taught by a few people most recently a work friends father who has lived with it screaming in both ears for almost fifty years (got it from the army).
Your mental health trick - does it work ? I have a fear when I try doing something I used to? Am a lot better now than 7 months ago when was at my lowest but still not there..have had 20 sessions of CBT...private ENT and ears waxed... will get there
It works for me but it can be hard. Especially when it’s loud but I still force it through. I make a plan for example I’m gonna read a certain number of book chapters and stick to it and it just distracts the mind but when I read I read aloud so I can hear me as well as the noise. I can’t promise but it really does help me.
Thank you DJV. I like your persistence and am inspired by you and others and will stop being a woose
