Hi forum members I have been at the doctor's again with my spiked tinitus and was told it's not my blood pressure that's wrong it's apparently my stress levels which are through the roof and this is reacting with my tinitus and making me feel very down in the dumps and worrying about paying bills working six days a week isn't helping I have offered the chance of going to see a mental health person to see if that will help to get my tinitus and stress levels down to a manageable level before it drives me crazy can any one on the forum offer me ideas on how to deal with my stress levels etc

Dear Sweeper

There is lots of information on the BTA website about Tinnitus and Stress.

You can find some of the information here tinnitus.org.uk/tinnitus-an...

Kind regards

Shakeela

Unfortunately thinking about it and stressing only makes it worse. They say distracting yourself from it is effective in keeping your mind occupied with something else helps. It is not easy to do! Much luck to you.

Thank you for replying I am going to get back to working in gardens as I enjoy that and hopefully that will occupy my mind when I am not doing my day job and keep my mind off my stress or anxiety

Good for you! Being outside is the only thing that keeps my sanity. The nature sounds mix in with all my multiple T sounds and make it so much more tolerable. I read about this in Neil Bauman's book: "Take Control of your Tinnitus." Neil is an expert in all things related to hearing and not only is he knowledgeable but he walks the walk; he has a myriad of problems himself and a lot of insight into solving them.

Dear Sweeper,

There are a lot of good info sheets on the website- Get self help- re stress management, relaxation and breathing techniques. Also Headspace- is a Mindfulness app (or you can get info on mindfulness via google) - that also teaches meditative types techniques to manage stress,

Best wishes,

Pauline

With some hope at the end of a very long tunnel.

Hi Sweeper I can emphasise with how you are feeling, my T can increase in volumne for no apparent reason whatsoever and doctors can offer no help. However I do know that Stress definitely makes it worse, recently drove down the M1 from Chesterfield to Luton for a flight, 3 mile section closed because of lorry fire, 8 mile tailback, after literally running to checkin and barging our way through the lines to security (sorry to all the other passengers) we just made flight. Weekend away totally ruined by T at a horrendous level. Recently started mindfulness meditation, it's not easy but I'll give anything a go, I now accept that the T will always be there but hopefully I can get to a point where it no longer dominates every area of my life. My advise is concentrate on dealing with your stress and forget trying to "cure" the T.
