Hi all. I am not sure if this is the correct place to post or not but I have been experiencing really bad tinnitus and dizziness since Christmas day.

I collapsed on boxing day and had to go to A&E. My symptoms seem to be getting worse not better. The doctors always dismiss my problems, so I am paying to go private to see an ENT specialist although I can barely afford it.

I have always had some amount of ringing in my ears, but since Christmas it has got really bad. Everyone in the house was ill, but not me. I think I contracted their bug but it just effected my ears and balance, I might be wrong.

My ears also crack alot and pop at night which never happened before. My right ear also has a weird tingly feeling which feels like it is on the tragus or just inside. Also, if I go out in the cold my inner ear aches, on both sides.

The other thing I have noticed is my vision seems brighter, more intense. If I focus on one spot or look down I can control the dizziness a little.

My life has come to a complete stop. In fairness I want the dizziness to stop first. Stemitil and cycladine have not worked. I am scared I have a brain tumour and the doctor has requested an MRI of the brain.

Has anyone had a similar exoerince?

Hi Edisonuk, I am sorry to hear you are suffering with your tinnitus. I'm not sure I can be of much help but I used to have dizziness which was first diagnosed as labrynthitis, then BPPV, then migraine over a period of 20+years. I then developed pulsatile tinnitus 2 years ago.

I know how debilitating the dizziness can be but I only had it for a day or so. Are you able to see another GP before you go to the expense of a private consultation? There can be many reasons for your symptoms but I understand your concerns. Stay strong and good luck with your appointments.

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:

tinnitus.org.uk (information and support details)

takeontinnitus.co.uk (free tinnitus management programme)

Helpline 0800 018 0527 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) (outside the UK you can call +44 (0)114 250 9922)

As you have also been experiencing dizziness, you might want to check out the resources on the Meniere's Society website, which will give tips on managing that condition (not that I'm saying you have that, but the information on dizziness is useful!)

Warmest wishes

Nic (BTA Communications Manager and Forum Administrator)
