Spot on lad, Jimmuck. When I went to the hospital the first thing the audiologist said to me when I mentioned my T was there is no tablets no operation and there is no cure for T. Then went on about hearing aids. WRONG what she should of said is at the moment there is a few things we can do. There is a load of research ongoing I’m not fully qualified on T but we will make a forwarding appointment with the person that is. Why do we get treated so poorly I cannot understand that. I think it’s about time we made ourselves Heard I’m sick of talking to a brick wall. You won’t believe what my doctor said to me there is one opinion we can cut the nerves behind each ear that will stop it instantly but you will go deaf instantly wow what type of opinion is that. Cheers guys you are fantastic people.

Ok then what you’re saying is that this GP is wrong because if he is then this is serious because if he has any doubts then he should not be giving this advice as a trusted practitioner.

Pebble is correct - being deaf does not mean you won`t have tinnitus

I’m not saying it my doctor is. That means some doctors are wrong to say things that they don’t know about. Scary

ask nic bta she will help you , I go to bta british tinnitus support group when I'm up to it, I ask the question I be better deaf than listening to this all the time , I was shocked when I was told no deaf people get tinnitus, it s you nerve end s in your brain that are no longer working and the brain is making these sound s not your ear s , they think it s linked to epilepsy , so as far has I know it s the brain causing the sound s in your head , I'm no doctor so I go with what I hear or see from people who know more than me

Hi that makes sense because my noises seem to come from the back of my head . Why isn't the brain treated if this is the case ..so bewildered 😳

Hello yes I agree it's so frustrating I have seen six different doctors at my surgery none had any information only to give antidepressants to help cope ..some cause ringing in ears and like you I was told I could have my hearing nerve cut . It's so upsetting that there is no help . Take care and let's hope for a miracle.

Hi Valient it is upsetting I don’t think doctors take it serious. I Don’t think they don’t care they just don’t know what to say. Unless the doctor himself has T. They need to study the subject ASAP. Good luck mate and hope this miracle comes soon

it s very hard to explain to some one about tinnitus , only if you record tinnitus sound s then play it back to them then they realise how s severe it is to us , I got my recording s from tinnitus sound s of the internet , I think doctor s have a lot of knowledge and the point you in the right direction but it s very complicated , the brain is complicated and if they operate they can do more harm than good , if people just listen to you and understand how we feel then this is a good start but when you feel on your own because it s only you hearing sounds it can become scary , the last thing we want is a brick wall then we come away gutted , if you can find anything that might just help a little then that s good I don't think we get cured but if we can make bit easier for our self s then it s a help

I hope I not gone on too much

Hello there

Yes, sadly it is true - some people did consent to having their auditory nerves severed to see if it would "cure" their tinnitus - and it didn't, it just meant they lost their hearing totally. Barbaric, and it was never a "treatment" offered by reputable surgeons.

Tinnitus is generated further up the auditory system - in fact many areas of the brain seem to be involved - and people who are born profoundly deaf can experience tinnitus.

And I'm going to play devil's advocate a little here - if you had a burst pipe in your house, would you rather the first person you called said "well, I don't know what to do about this, but I will call you a plumber" or would you let them loose on the leak?

Best wishes

Nic

Thanks Nic totally agree but you would think the doctor who offered me this choice would no or he would not of said it. Just makes you think that even doctors get things wrong. Scary. Cheers
