Hi,I'm a newbie here,,I have suffered with tinnitus in one ear for 14 years.
I went to audiology for another hearing test yesterday after my hearing seemed to have deteriated.
I was told that my hearing had worsened,but interestingly, the first I had 3 years ago was as bad as the one I had yesterday.
An hearing test I had 2 years ago was much better than the first I had and better than the one I had yesterday.
Is this common in tinnitus sufferers please ?

Hi Redimp, you seem to have regular hearing tests done. I’ve had tinnitus for several years now in both ears, though I was only diagnosed with tinnitus around 6 years ago. I had a hearing test done in 2012 but none since. I’m hoping to see my Audiologist soon with view of trying out 2 hearing aids as I opted for only one aid 6 years ago. I was told I only have a mild hearing loss in 2012 yet my tinnitus was loud then and has been much louder since. If I get an appointment with Audiology soon then hopefully I’ll get another hearing test done so I can update you on any differences found in my hearing.

The reason for regular hearing tests is because I keep noticing my hearing getting better then get worse.
I went to football match in Lincoln yesterday and crowd was very loud so suffered last night a bit.
But the curry I had after could of affected my tinnitus also.
Maybe I should have pushed the Audiology Department more so that I could have regular hearing tests. After a few appointments with them and trying out the hearing aid and sound ball they stated that I was following guidelines in dealing with my tinnitus so there was little else that could be done by them. The sound ball at night was hopeless as it’s battery operated and soon ran out of power being left on overnight. My tinnitus is clearly audible in both ears so I’m hoping that two hearing aids will bring on some improvement.
Hi 2 hearing aids will definitely help. I’ve got hearing loss in both ears and tinnitus in both ears 24/7. Had it 35 years. It’s not always intrusive tho it can “disappear” for years even though I still hear it, if that makes sense.
Just got new aids with built in maskers which are definitely helping. If I could just switch my brain off from constantly stressing about the t, as I’ve done in the past, I’m sure I’ll be fine again.
They say stress makes it worse but I literally don’t get stressed. I’m going through breast cancer treatment at the moment so maybe my stress is in my subconscious and that’s what’s caused this latest flare up. I’ve also got very high blood pressure which gp says is aggravating it at the moment.

Yes I’m definitely going to ask Audiology about hearing aids with maskers. The hearing aid I have at the moment is just a basic aid provided only to pick up other sounds as a distraction to tinnitus. I keep a note of days when my tinnitus seems to “flare up” meaning it’s louder than normal. So far that occurs with me 4 or 5 days per week. More bad days than good but I live in hope things will improve in future. Never let it get you down is a good philosophy!
