CBD Oil - The Oral Variety

After experimenting with vaping CBD oil for a couple of weeks, I decided to go the full hog and yesterday, I bought a small bottle of the type you take orally. About teatime, I put three drops under my tongue, left it there for about a minute then swallowed it. There was no immediate effect as I expected but by bedtime around 11pm, the raging tinnitus I had had all day on the right side was much lower in volume and I woke this morning with an almost silent head. I took another three drops around 10am and the T was still audible all day but at a very low volume. It's now 8pm and I am almost afraid to tempt fate but it's still very quiet. Coincidence or maybe a placebo effect could be the reason but whatever it is, I hope it lasts for a while yet! The small bottle is enough to last me a month so I'll persevere with it and see how I am feeling four weeks down the line. If you're thinking of trying it for yourself, a small bottle is around £20 from a well known high street food supplement retailer. The taste of it also takes a bit of getting used to and is best described as nutty/earthy but only lingers in the mouth a for a few minutes.

Hi David. I am at the stage where I will try anything and everything to try and get the volume down a bit. Now on day two of the oil and although my T is back today after two quiet days, it's not as loud as normal.I have been busy for the past few days with some detailed graphic design work so that could be stressing me a little but who knows with this unpredictable monster in our heads! I'll keep you posted as to my success (or lack of ) with with the oil. I hope today is a good day for you.

Hi are you still trying cbd oil and is it making a difference...

Hi Valient,

I am currently using both varieties, vaping and oral. It's very early days and I am still experimenting with how much I use and while there is no immediate difference after taking it, I would say overall it seems to be helping. The volume of my tinnitus certainly seems to be lower than before and on a scale of 1 to 10 ( 10 being loudest) it is currently around 5/6 compared to a raging 9/10 previously. Cumulatively, I've had a couple of days where I almost forgot I had it, as it was so quiet! Having said that, I also had a very severe spike which went on for hours the other night and it felt as if the sound was bouncing from one side of my head to the other. In addition to the CBD oil I also take a zinc tablet every morning and 10mg Amitrip at night, so maybe all three are doing something, but who knows!

Thank you for reply. I got some oil from high street health store and first day was quiet but next day was loud . This is a horrible thing because it gives so much false hope . I also take amitrip. Thank you again ..

Can I ask what the thinking behind the zinc supplement is Jim? I'm another one that's on Amitrip, but I don't know whether it's having any benefit.

Hi Ruud,

I've read so many articles about T on the internet I can't remember which site it was on, but there was a study published about zinc supplements and their effect on tinnitus. Sufferers were given placebos and some were given real zinc and the results showed that those on the latter, said their T had reduced in volume over a measured time scale. I was encouraged by the findings and decided to try it myself so I bought a tub for about three quid at the chemists. I don't know if they are helping or not to be honest but nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Best wishes

Jim

How are things working for you now, Jim?

Jimmuck profile image
Jimmuck in reply toRpn1

Hi Rpn,

Tinnitus is a constant battle as you probably know and like most of us I have good spells and some truly awful ones. Lately, I have had some days when it feels as if I have habituated to it and it doesn't bother me too much. At other times, it spikes and gets so loud that even with my hearing aids on full volume, it makes no difference. I have tried everything within my means to find a way to try and knock it down a notch in volume but without much success. The CBD oil in both forms, seemed to help a little at first but I think the concentration was too low so I might try a stronger brand as there are several on the open market now. I gave up on the zinc tablets and opted for a stronger dose of Amitrip as it helps me sleep better. One thing I have discovered is that tiredness is a trigger for me, so a good nights sleep really helps. I try to keep my mind focused on other things other than my head noises, which on bad days is extremely difficult but I find certain pastimes and hobbies which involve concentration very helpful.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping the cbd was a magic pill! I may give it a try. Would love an update if you do take a stronger dose. My ent is still trying to figure me out. The noise I have seems like much more than that, I can feel it. It’s like half my head is vibrating among the pressure and fullness. It’s so random and there doesn’t seem to be a real pattern or trigger. I’ve tried diuretics, benzos, muscle relaxants... I’ve contemplated banging my head on the wall but we know that won’t work ;)

Good to see that CBD is helping you. You never know til you try and remember that everyone is different and it is best to experiment with the serving sizes.

HelloCBDuk.com will take you to the the pioneers of CBD and the first company to own the patent for its use. Good luck with the daily struggles it gives you.

Hi! Can you Tell me what concentration did you use for CBD? And How many drops daily pls. I m from România and I was wondering if is possible to buy It online.

Thank you! Have a good day ahead with less noise!:x

Jimmuck in reply toElaa

Salutare Elaa. The oil which I used was a low concentration about 2.3% if I remember correctly which I think was too low as it didn't seem to be very effective. I was taking it three times a day and usually 3-4 drops at a time. Be warned, it tastes absolutely foul, so consider buying it flavoured with mint or fruit.

I bought mine from a high street retailer in Scotland so I can't help you regarding buying it online. I am sure a google search will throw up some suppliers for you if you wish to purchase it online.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I suffer from severe T, it drives me crazy, can't work and many days are gray, actually my T has taken over my life. Anyways, I just ordered CBD cannabis (12% CBD and less than 1% THC). I will vape it and see if there is any difference, for better or worse. As for as I know, there is no human trial using CBD to treat T.

Regular cannabis usually make things worse for me, can't wait to try a high CBD strain. I will repost with subjective results.

Have been for about two months now and my anxiety has been significantly helped with it as well. I will never go back to other meds this was the best fit for me what a difference. Im in Canada so our meds are not the same but what i was given didnt work till i started witg cbd.

Hi there. What you say is very encouraging indeed and I am delighted to hear that someone out there in tinnitus land has finally found something that has had a positive effect. You mentioned that you were taking 20mg so I am assuming you take it in tablet form. I am not sure if it's available in the UK as tablets, as all that seems to be available here is oil although you can now buy tea infused with CBD. I'll have a scout around and see if tablets are available as taking the oil orally is disgusting and the vaping variety wasn't doing much good. I am so pleased you have had a great result with it and please keep us posted on your progress. Thanks for posting.

Best wishes

I have found reading these replies to your post really helpful, so much so I am going to try the cbd oil to alleviate my own T. May I ask, did you get yours from H & B on the highstreet?

Thanks for the post.

Jimmuck profile image
Jimmuck in reply toHumphreyCat

Hi Humphrey. Yes I bought mine at H&B over the counter at a High Street branch. One thing I would advise is go for the strongest concentration you can get if you can afford it, as I think the one I purchased was too low. There is quite a hike in price from the cheapest to the more expensive variety so make sure you check before you buy! Whichever one you opt for, I hope it works for you and I would love to hear how you get on.

I tried it and it didn’t make any difference but if it works for you then great

I too am trying CBD bilingual oil & dare I say it seems to have calmed my tinnitus.

I have a measured improvement to the "overall" tinnitus by my daily use of oral CBD oil, about 3 drops under my tongue twice a day.

I would estimate the perceived improvement at least 15% but am going to try placing a little on a cotton swab and placing some in the actual ear canal to see if that affects anything.

What type of oil should I ask for ?

Ruud1boy profile image

I'm going to give the capsules a go. I've tried Gingko and Ubiqionol to no effect whatsoever, so I think the time is right for me to move on to another false hope.

Hi I’ve been taking the capsules and they do make me feel calmer. They’ve done nothing for my t tho. I’m moving on to CBD oil 1000mg which is placed under the tongue twice a day. It’s expensive £94 for a small bottle, but it should last for about 6 weeks. It’s stronger than what you can buy on the high street. I’ve ordered it from a company near where I live and it’s regulated by the government.

Fingers crossed, but I’ve read good reviews.

Take care

Ingrid

I know the feeling Ruudboy. It's so frustrating when you think you've found something that might help, only to discover a few weeks down the line it has made no difference to your tinnitus. I really don't know where to turn next as like you, I have tried everything I can think of except ginko as I was advised it might interfere with my blood pressure meds.

I still harbour the notion though, that a much stronger concentration of cbd might work as it seems to be a cure all for just about everything these days. I hope it works for those who are trying it and if it's a success, I'll give it a shot. I wait with baited breath for the results!

Ingrid-p in reply toJimmuck

Hi mine is being delivered next week so I'll keep you posted.

I think you have to go for the oil and not the capsules and go for the highest strength. The higher the strength the more expensive though. I'm going for 1000mg which is 10%.

Going through a bad patch at the moment so prepared to give it a go 😊

Ivel been on CBD oil 10% strength I suffer from Psoriasis Arthritis and took it for the pain it helped a lot but I have also had TINNITUS for many years and its with me 24/7 I think the cbd oil made it worse. I came off it for a week my Arthritis pain increased and the Tinnitus was a little better. Now back on the CBD for 3 days the arthritis is better but last night my TINNITUS was terrible.
