My tinnitus started firstly in my right ear around ten weeks ago and this was due to wax (I had never noticed tinnitus before). I had the wax removed last week but I still have a high pitched ring. I have now have the tinnitus in my left ear and the nurse who syringed my right ear noticed that I had wax in my left, but advised me to use olive oil. So now I have ringing in both and waiting patiently for an appointment for it to be looked at. I can feel quite scared of going to bed, as this is when it troubles me the most

When the world is silent every sound (in or outside the head) is louder. Somehow you have to get the head sounds woven back into the background - and this is usually achieved by masking it. I use an Oasis Nature Sounds box which you can get through the BTA - it breaks up the continuous unwanted T.

Keep busy during the day.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

Tinnitus is often more noticeable at night, because the world around is quieter. You might find using sound at a low level useful. Tinnitus can sometimes be louder after ear wax removal, and settles down once the brain is used to the "full volume" signal coming back in.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:
