Help!!! I do not feel well. I asked Doc my Thyriod result and was told 3 What does this mean? I am on 50mg Levothyroxine Thanks K
Hi and welcome to the site Kildare.
I don't think your doctor has given you enough information to allow anyone to help answer your question. 3 is meaningless unless he told you what the actual test was. Did he mention TSH?
Can you go back to your doctors and ask for a printout of the results with the reference ranges (figures in brackets). You need this too because the test references vary between laboratories.
You are entitled to have copies and do not have to give a reason - some people get them with no problems and others have a struggle but get there in the end.
It's really worth persevering and you can get so much help from people on this site if you can post the results with details of your symptoms.

If the "3" means TSH then you could do with an increase.
Even though we don't like the current BTA (British Thyroid Association) guidelines for treatment (they leave too many people feeling unwell and are too inflexible) they do state that if the patient is not feeling well their dose may need fine-tuning within the TSH range. Your TSH is currently in the upper part of the range so an increase in dose may well help. That's if the "3" your doctor stated is referring to the TSH test.

Hi Like others I guess the 3 means TSH. This blood test on its own is useless. At the very least you need TSH T4 and Free T3. This is usually about costs. They were always done for a diagnosis. If GP will not do the tests ,you really need them. If you do not mind paying, I now have to use Blue Horizon, through TUK bloods , the intermediate test, I quote TUK 10 and have them for £61. Results to you etc ,all DIY by post. Then if it need treating ( well known lab ) so you can show it to any doc of your choice! It takes a long while to be stable and feel better.

Also ask the GP to give you a blood test for B12 and Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. and post those results too.
