I have read a few things recently about self medicating, and i have decided to go back to levo for now. I'm going to concentrate on getting my deficiences at the right level and addressing adrenals, the idea with the Armour was to help my adrenals (i didn't get on with nutri adrenal)but according to amry shomon it can be really dangerous self medicating, she appreciates some of us have no choice. I am taking 3/4 grain armour per day in divided doses, and was on 75mcgs levo, what dose levo would be safe to start on? 25, or 50mcg?
I have been getting indegestion since the armour-but i wonder if its because it is a lower dose i'm on than the levo ands wether is low stomach acid.
i'm seeing the endo tomorrow and really don't know what to say, i daren't mention self medicating on armour and indegestion!!! the plan is keep quiet about the armour i think. Why can't we just get proper treatment?
If I were in your situation, I'd start back on the same dose of levo (i.e. 75mcg). There doesn't seem to be any good reason to go back to an even lower dose. It may be that the reason you didn't get well on levothyroxine before was because you hadn't reached your ideal dose, which for most people would be higher than 75mcg.
I got myself in a real muddle with thyroxine because of an irregular heart and doctor not taking any notice of . I stopped taking it and heart was just fine. Eventually of course I had to go back to doctor (different one as I changed surgery) he than started me off on dose too high as TSH was 19 by then. Eventually by degrees and tiny increases and decreases I seem to have managed to get TSH down to 3.8 which he said was "normal" I joked with him and said perhaps for you but not for me! He laughed and said we would work at getting it down more (I'm in love!) I then heard (on this site) that some people took thyroxine at night so I started doing that and eased my throxine up another 25 which I could tolerate. I am now on 100 and have had a blood test (result not in yet) I feel I could now take another 25 without the dreaded wonky heart effect. It is taking an age but "slowly slowly catchee monkey". It takes patience and a good doctor to get you there. That's if you are lucky enough for thyroxine to be the medication to work for you. Many of those on here need other things which is so difficult for them to be treated.
