hello, so after battling to lower my BP for a couple of years ive finally given in and gone onto meds for it.

Dr has put me on 5mg of amlodipine and i was wondering if its ok to take them alongside levothyroxine in the morning ? but then again reading the side effects would i be better off taking them at night ?

worry myself sick when taking new meds :(

thankyou

We have seen all too many people have issues due to taking things - food, drinks, supplements and other medicines - alongside levothyroxine that the only sensible advice is to avoid doing so if possible. Even if the active ingredients do not have any interaction, the other things in the tablets might do!

It expressly says in some documentation (US stuff) that amlodipine should be taken at same time every day. And that is clearly the case for levothyroxine.

It might be better to take one in the morning, the other at bed-time? There has been a lot of discussion about bed-time dosing with levothyroxine here over the past couple of days.

Cannot advise about when to take amlodipine, its side effects or anything else, I am afraid.

thankyou, its taken me a good 2 years to get the thyroxine right and 125 every morning between 8am and 9am seems to be working well wahoo !!!!!!!!! been feeling mostly human with steady levels for about 5 months.

im terrified of anything that might change that so think i'll take the BP meds at night :)

not worth risking !

i'm taking amlodipine twice a day (for chilblains) and propranolol three and four times a day (for headache prevention) as well as armour and citalopram. I wish I had more options about when I can take everything. I've asked the gp to do thyroid tests every six weeks in case the uptake is being affected. i'm pretty sure the citalopram is compromised. but the gp won't touch that, leaving it for the cpn. I wish I knew who could I ask about it all!
