I cannot answer your question but this is an answer from Dr Lowe re weight gain whilst on T4.

As far as I understand many are kept on a 'replacement' dose instead of a higher dose or better still the addition of T3.

Hi Unless on Metformin for the diabetes your weight will go up even with the right diet. As for the diet for diabetes, I did not find any info from UK or the States or various dieticians any help and all very conflicting. Then I found 2 books by A T W Thompson on Amazon., I bought them as second hand so very cheap. The forwards are good on both but the one is exceptional, Who ever wrote it must be brilliant. It is completely different and really helpful. The titles are " The Diabetes weight loss diet " ( I paid £ 8 .44 and " Healthy Eating for Diabetes "I paid £ 4. i hope this helps.Of course, exercise is vital with diabetes and would help the weight

Metformin HAS to be first choice drugs if at all possible/suitable.

Low carb type diets (of one type or another) is the other.

Current Endos recommendations are to eat ridiculously high amounts of carbs, even with just Pre-diabetic conditions as I have I can't cope with those amounts of carbs! My Grandmother went through hell on earth meticulously following he standard diabetic diet, and never ever achieved any degree of control of blood glucose, with all the problems that produces :-(

There are Diabetics successfully on low carb diets on various forums around the 'Net who do well on low carb diets - low carb means less insulin produced, less Insulin means less fat gets stored! (eg. diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-for... ) diabetes.org.uk/About_us/Ou...
