can someone explain the link between diabetes and hashimotos

Hoping i've spelt that right! I have type two diabetes and i suspect i have thyroid problems. I would like to know how the two conditions are interlinked. Is anyone else in the same boat out there?

Weight gain is common with Low thyroid metabolism so that in turn affects the way sugar is used/stored. Hashi's and Type 1 are connected as both are auto-immune in nature.
