There certainly is an overlap of symptoms with peri menopause & hypothyroidism. When looking at adverse symptoms, it can be difficult to work out what is at play.

It’s definitely worth ensuring thyroid medication is optimal prior to exploring any medication for peri menopause.

Regarding peri menopause, it may be useful to have a look at Dr Louise Newson’s free Balance App, as I find it really useful for comparing HRT medications & having up to date research articles. There is also an ability to post questions.

Thanks so much for yiuryour reply. I was guessing that looking at hypo medication first was the right way round, so thanks for confirming . I will also check out the app. Thanks : )

Yes it does. I am going through perimenopause and have just been diagnosed with Thyroid issues taking 50 MCG levothyroxine. The symptoms of both are very similar and so sometimes I think the diagnosis is difficult. I had blood tests done and the practice are very careful with the dosage I am given and with monitoring the condition. My mother had a similar problem at the same time of life but her thyroid problems were more advanced and later once menopause had finished she came off the levothyroxine I am hoping the same will happen to me although generally they state that you will be on it for life. Check with your docs though they know exactly what to do. I didn't see a doctor through the whole problem but I did see several nurse practitioners. Watch out for your blood pressure that was going in the wrong direction for me , initially I thought it was heart as I had problems with feeling dizzy. However everyone is so different what may effect me may not effect you and vice versa. If in doubt check it out. Thats my motto. Glad I did as I feel much better now than I did before.
