Do the commercial Hypothyroid test kits cover The Hyperthyroid range?

I have seen hyporthyroid test kits on ebay. Does anyone know if they detect the hyperthyroid range please, as I would like to keep an eye on my levels beyond the three month testing that I have at the moment. I want to gain a bit of understanding about it myself, about the condition and the medication effects. Thanks for any help you can give.

Without knowing exactly what you are referring to, the answer has to be "I don't know".

However, if they are cheap, lateral flow devices, then no. They are useless. Worse than useless. They should be banned.

All they do is detect whether TSH is under or over 5 (or somewhere near that). Which is awful for EVERYONE.

If your TSH were 4.9, most here would regard you as being hypothyroid, yet that test would say "Fine".

If your TSH were 0.001, or literally undetectable, that test would say "Fine".

If your TSH were 5.1, the test would say "Not fine" but you would have no idea if you had a minor transient or need to get to Accident & Emergency immediately.

In either case, the test can provide false reassurance and push people not to get a proper test.

However, it is perfectly possible that some proper labs offer their tests on eBay. I do not know.

Have had a glance at eBay.

If it says it is a home test with result in 10 minutes, forget it entirely. Price is also typically £10 or less for one.

If it says it is a home sample collection, and that the analysis is done at an approved lab, then they might be OK. Price typically starts around £30 and might say it include Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, Free T4, Free T3 - and maybe some others like antibodies.

Sugget you try one of the tests to include TSH, FT4 & FT3, ntibodies & ferritin, folate, B12 & D3.

Thyroid UK has a list of companies and discount codes here: thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

There is also a new company offering walk in& mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

Randox is probably the cheapest to ffer all the tests you need, not on T UK list.

A test from Ebay as Helvella has said is unlikely to show the levels that you need.
