hello I have hashimotos thyroiditis , I have been taking 100 mg of levethyroxine per day , but yesterday , my heart rate was higher and pounding which I don’t normally get , I do have atrial fibrillation, but this has been under control for yrs , I feel sick this morning and I have not taken my Levethyroxine , due to worry of pounding fast heart again , I had it all day yesterday, was realy hungry and going loo more ? Other days I have no appetite? Can anybody advise me what to do for the best , could I miss todays dose , or could I reduce my dose , also my thyroid gland is smaller than it should be with 2 nodules, realy don’t know what to do

You have Hashimoto’s so this could be a hashimoto’s flare

Have you been splitting your dose …half in morning and half at bedtime

How long since dose was increased

Looking at previous posts

As well as improving low thyroid levels presumably you been working on improving your low vitamin D, folate and B12 levels

B12 level 301 ng/L [197.0 - 771.0]

Serum folate level 3.6 ug/L [3.0 - 20.0]

vitamin D level 42.0 nmol/L;

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking and what time of day

I have tried b12 but found on 2nd day I was getting etopic beats ? I have been on 100mg since October , also tried splitting my dose but found moring dose to low but think I will try again if heart palpitations and pounding would stop

These are my latest results

Ectopic beats quite likely due to being hypothyroid/low Ft3

which B12

This one highly effective

Initially start on 3-4 drops in morning after breakfast

Increase to full dose over week or so

What about vitamin D and important to add separate vitamin B complex roughly 10-14 days after starting on B12

For good conversion of Ft4 to Ft3 we must have good vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels leads to high Ft4 (hyper type symptoms) but low Ft3 (remaining hypo)

So feel hypo and hyper at same time

Folate is also very low so a B complex needed... no range but aiming for double figures at least

yes I started vitamin d , also my heart pounds , so should I carry on taking full dose in morning or split , I’ve already took my other medication so would it still be ok to take

Suggest you split dose levothyroxine at moment while you work on improving low vitamin levels

Half dose waking and half dose at bedtime…..Cut tablet in half

Which brand have you got

How much vitamin D are you taking

Is it mouth spray or tablet

Have you started any magnesium supplement yet?

I have accord brand of levothyroxine , and take 10 mg of vitamin d tablet form , I have to be careful what I take with flecinide , I can feel my heart beating now , and getting palpitations so don’t know if to take it now ?

If my thyroid is low could this be why I’m having more palpitations now 6 hours later could I take my other dose now ?

Yes palpitations common when UNDER medicated

Vitamin D

10mg is only 400iu so very small dose

Likely to need more like 2000iu to 3000iu daily….or higher

Try vitamin D mouth spray

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with thyroid issues we frequently need higher dose than average

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing
