Levothyroxine in the USA

Does anyone have any clear information regarding what brands of levothyroxine are available in the states and which ones a most well tolerated?

I'm moving there at the end of the year and I'm starting to think about my hypo treatment transition.

I've had issues with changing brands in the past and have been comfortable on Mercury Pharma for a number of years now so thinking about changing is somewhat overwhelming.

In an ideal world I'd be able to source Mercury Pharma while I'm there but I dont think that's possible..

Thanks in advance for your help.

name brands are Synthroid, Unithroid, Levoxyl, and Tirosint. There may be others I haven't heard of. I take Levoxyl which is well tolerated. I prefer generics because they result in higher FT4 levels for me but it's difficult to get the same generic long term because they're often switched up at pharmacies. I won't take Synthroid due to the fillers and outrageous price. Unithroid is a second runner up. It's lowest in price and reliable. Tirosint is liquid or gel capsules. It has an absorption rate of nearly 100% as opposed to the 80% in tablets. It comes in blister packs or ampules. You can find Euthyrox in the US but I didn't like the stuff. Only good thing is that they come in blister packs. It's mostly trial and error with the brands. I've tried them all and went with Levoxyl. Good luck with the move!

I'm in US and have been on brand name for entire time. Was on Synthroid for most of the time but then had issues tolerating it. I am now on Tirosint since it is the most free of fillers. I might also add I take T3 also. It's an individual thing as everyone tolerates different meds differently.

Thank you for your reply, figuring out the American healthcare system has been abit overwhelming so I’m just trying to be as proactive as possible about switching meds. I’ve had trouble with brands here in the UK before so the thought of having to go through that trial and error again is abit scary but it seems like Tirosint may be the best to try first.

Thank you for your insight

Sorry I missed your post.

My medicines document for the rest of the world includes the USA.

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.
