Major conditions strategy: call for evidence

The DHSC (in England) is calling for evidence.

Now, you and I know that thyroid can be implicated in cancers, cardiovascular disease, including stroke and diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, dementia, mental ill health and musculoskeletal disorders. Sometimes as a direct cause, sometimes an additional cause or aggravating factor, sometimes as a complicating factor.

But the DHSC has somehow come to the conclusion that each of those is one of the big 6 - and thyroid can be forgotten. Actually, worse, that thyroid SHOULD be forgotten.

However, this call is such that I think anyone who considers they have anything to say on these big 6 can include thyroid aspects in their responses to each of these.

If you have any comments on the big 6, and it relates to England, please consider if there are any thyroid aspects which should appropriately be included.

Consultation description

We’re seeking your views and ideas on how to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage the 6 major groups of health conditions that most affect the population in England. These are:

cancers

cardiovascular disease, including stroke and diabetes

chronic respiratory diseases

dementia

mental ill health

musculoskeletal disorders

The views and ideas gathered will inform the priorities and actions in the major conditions strategy.

This call for evidence builds on from the calls for evidence last year on cancer and mental health. These provided very useful insights, which we will be considering in the development of the major conditions strategy.

As I think they did the same for the Womens Health Plan and Strategy I think that summarises their strategy for us quite well - forgotten ... or perhaps ignored.

I can certainly add a line or two especially on their questions "Do you have any suggestions on how we can support people to tackle these risk factors?"

Thank you
