UK Biobank is a large-scale biomedical database and research resource that is enabling new scientific discoveries to be made that improve public health. The resource provides accredited researchers access to medical and genetic data from half a million volunteer participants to improve our understanding of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnessesukbiobank.ac.uk/

Can we assume not a bunch of hee-haw's? I have just sent an email hoping to join...

I'm up for a bit of useful medical research and willingness to learn (guinea pigging) 😆

I think participants were selected randomly and invited to participate. Not volunteers as such.

Thought it worth a try 😉

Hi Eeyore100, you might be interested in ourfuturehealth.org.uk I've only just signed up so can't give you any information beyond what is on the site. Not sure it's as detailed as Biobank, but something could come of it. They're looking for 5 million of us.

Looks interesting, thanks

"As Our Future Health is a research programme, your information will not be used in the diagnosis or treatment of disease, and you will not automatically receive personal feedback about your samples, DNA or other data.

But in the future, we will get in touch to ask if you would like to receive personal feedback from your samples, DNA or other data. You might learn new information about your health or risk of disease from this feedback. We will always give you more information and the chance to ask questions before you make your decision, and you can say yes or no."

We're taking a one hour trip to a collection site. Sad lives when this is a day out!

😕🤣 good that you are up for a trip... getting me in the car for a hour is asking a lot 😬 I'm guessing they can still harvest my details from my records?

Maybe if lots of people sign up they will open more sites sooner?

We've been having a discussion about whether data that is already available will be included. Having completed the health questionnaires there was a lot that wasn't asked about. Also, having family members who have fallen foul of dire NHS data keeping and sharing between hospitals, GPs etc we've pondered if it's better for them to start again.

They ask if they can have access to GP/Hospital records when you sign up, though don't pass on the personal details with samples? Lets face it non of our personal information isn't already accessible to those that want it 🙄

We are well and truly in the system when it comes to harvesting our information whether it's with loyalty/ credit cards or medical records
