Further to Canada’s Tania Sona Smith - Powerful Summary

Hopefully it is not inappropriate to bring this up again and with a view to an update. Has anyone who wrote to the British Thyroid Association re: the exchange on Twitter had a reply? I have not yet written as I believed I was unlikely to get a reply. Naturally enough, after making a number of enquiries elsewhere, I off course find I must start there with the BTA. Ideally I do not want to pursue this entirely on my own. So please if anyone else has taken this up I would be obliged if they posted. It is my understanding that if they do not reply it is an infraction of their duties as a charity.

There's no charity information on the BTA website. They describe themselves as A non-profit making Learned Society. british-thyroid-association...

You are right. But the Charity Commission has this:

THE BRITISH THYROID ASSOCIATION

Charity number: 1119631

The first site I found which expresses what their website has to show was this one - unfortunately a website developer rather than an official site. And has the word "should" - not "must".

What information should be shown?

Name of the company or charity

Registered address

The part of the UK in which the company or charity is registered

Registered number

VAT number, if registered for VAT

Interesting. I'm surprised if the Charity Commission don't make it compulsory to display reg. number etc on the website.

The Scottish charity people definitely require:

You must put the charity’s details on:

all your external letters and emails

your website’s home page

all your adverts, notices and official publications

documents that ask for donations for your charity

bills your charity issues

direct debit and standing order mandates

all invoices and receipts

annual accounts

educational, promotional or campaign materials

legal conveyance documents about land rights (buying, selling or transferring land)

contracts.

In addition to above requirements, it is good practice to put charity details on:

all your website pages

your charity’s social media accounts

campaigns or adverts that are online, on the radio or television

business cards

signs and displays.

OK people. Thank you and I am assured by a VIP organisation that the BTA is definitely a charity. I think the cowardly anonymous offering on Twitter by the BTA needs to be challenged, no matter who posted it on their behalf. I will be making a complaint. Since I myself do not partake of Twitter if anyone wants to give me more info, please do. However I think that anyone who wants to have a say should.

This one is rather what I expected. Doing their best to unload the accountability on to the very people who have committed the ‘crime’. Still it also will be worth a studied read. Thank you!
