After looking at ranges, each cholesterol type is within range, so how can total have a different range?

Cholesterol levels have nothing to do with your diet or exercise. It is made in the liver - because the body needs it - and the more you consume, the less the liver makes - the less you consume, the more the liver makes, in an effort to keep levels stable. There is certainly no connection between cholesterol and fat/oil. They are two entirely different substances and fat does not magically turn into cholesterol when you eat it!

What does cause high cholesterol is low T3. When there is not enough T3 in the system, the body cannot process cholesterol correctly and it tends to build up in the blood. Raise the FT3 level and the cholesterol level will drop.

Does sound to me like there is a lack of fat in your diet. The body needs fat and there can be dire consequences to not getting enough. And be careful not to over-exercise because that will negatively affect conversion of T4 to T3, meaning that the T3 will be even lower. :)

wow,revelation. Thank you.

I actually am very active as I work as a gardener/labourer, then I have all my animals and my own garden. But, I don't get the chance to swim much at the moment or do any cardio, so I doubt I'm over exercising?

maybe I should start to have a bit of toast in the week? To have my non dairy butter.

I have alot of milk, oat, Hazel and coconut, these have sunflower oil ,

my doctor wouldn't do t3 test, I queried she said it wasn't needed. So maybe if she refuses again this time, I just pay for it?

my HDL is high, the other 2 are within range, yet the total is high? I don't get how that works .

I've have heart tests and carotid arteries checked, all perfect.

Everything you do is exercise - even thinking - not just what you do in a gym. It all uses up calories - calories that are needed for converting T4 to T3. So, if we add up all your activities, yes, you probably are over-exercising.

Lord! That sounds grim! Why not dairy butter? If you're not using cows milk products, can't you get yourself some goat butter or sheep butter? They are usually better tolerated. But, in any case, even my dairy-obsessed one-time endo admitted that butter wasn't the worst thing to eat, just avoid the rest of the milk.

What is your non-dairy butter made from?

Sunflower oil is one of the worst oils, very highly processed. All seed oils should be avoided.

lol No, what she actually meant was she doesn't know what the hell it is, so wouldn't be able to interpret the results! You think I'm exaggerating? A couple of doctors have actually said that to me, in those exact words! They don't know what T3 is.

So, yes, getting full thyroid testing privately is the best thing you could do.

my HDL is high, the other 2 are within range, yet the total is high? I don't get how that works .

It doesn't. They make it up as they go along. When they 'test' cholesterol they don't actually measure the cholesterol itself, they meansure the number of protein carriers that might or might not be full of cholesterol. It's all a scam to get you to take statins.

I've have heart tests and carotid arteries checked, all perfect.

Well, cholesterol doesn't actually block arteries. And, it's not cholesterol that causes heart attacks and strokes. It's inflammation. And - guess what! - a lot of inflammation is caused by low T3!

What cholesterol does is act like a sticking plaster. When an artery is dammaged, the cholesterol comes along and covers it up like a bandage while it heals. When the wound is healed, the cholesterol is absorbed into the cell walls - because that's what they're made of, anyway. Most of our body is made of cholesterol - our brains, our sex hormones, our cell walls. So, it's really not the enemy they'd have to think it is. It's our friend. :)

thank you.

had butter on crumpets, but don't eat them now unless I make them myself from scratch, so ok, I'll have toast with butter couple of times a week?

I tried goat milk and feta, no good.

have just discovered a dairy delivery of unprocessed dairy products. Need to order a small amount to try. Be interested to see if I react differently or at all.

very interested in your take on cholesterol. As far as I can tell, I need to stop worrying? I'm fine?

Well, as far as your cholesterol is concerned, you're fine. But, low T3 is another matter entirely!

Petgirl2 did I read correctly that your Vit D level is 26?!! don't understand the 37.9 figure!!

If that figure is correct, then you are very deficient and should be getting loading doses. @SeasideSusie on here is brilliant with Vit results and what quantities of supplements you should take. Ask her for advice. What are your other vitamin results like. Within range is not good enough, you need to have optimal levels when you have Thyroid issues.

hI.my first reading was from March, after 3 months under a blanket very poorly. The 37 reading was last week after working all summer.

Your results are in conventional units, and fine.

As for anyone with inexplicable cholesterol readings, I now eat pork, mackerel, sardines but no bread, rice and very little potato or beans, to control my blood glucose, and my cholesterol and triglycerides are considered OK. I used to have a wholefoods vegetarian diet, and my cholesterol and triglycerides were then of some concern, though I don't know what they were pre-diagnosis and when I was far more active. I now have a calcium requirement two or three times normal, which I get mainly from cheese. My coronary calcium score was fine.
