This new paper is from the lab of a prominent bio-mathematician (Y Alon) and coworkers. It's pretty hard going so many people including myself have to assume the process is well explained. It copiously references our work and agrees with it, so that is a bit of a feather in the cap, considering Alon's high capability. I can obtain full view when quoting DOI number.

It struck me that hysteria and hysteresis seemed remarkably similar (not that mad woman old chestnut again!) but initially my research showed that they seemed to be unrelated ….. not so according to this explanation:
hysteresis comes from “husteros,” that means “additional, posterior” but also “more external” and from here the word “uterus” was used to designate the pregnant belly, or the “more external part” of the body; in ancient times, the knowledge in anatomy was not as precise as it is today. In a different version, Mina’s uncle said that the relation was given by the delay with which the placenta is expelled after a woman gives birth to a child; the placenta and other organs were accordingly named after this peculiarity. Either way the words are linked!
It is both easy to explain, but difficult if not impossible for the medic world in thyroidology to accept. It is simply this: if using the accepted model, the minor T3 contribution direct from the thyroid is seen as unimportant in controlling the production and use of thyroid hormones. Actually it is one of the main players in the game, second only to direct T4 production. The moment this is admitted, the whole house of cards of the flimsy present belief comes crashing down. And in admitting this, the spectre of 30+ years of mistaken diagnosis/treatment using TSH only as a guide, follows mercilessly on. This is why the world will not admit it - they are trying to get round their error by either ignoring it or trying to weave it in to their paradigm without having to give way completely. Note for example, Bianco and coworkers try to explain things by genetics only. It doesn't work. Just as a taster, there is a paper where mice were produced with no DI01, DI02 or DI03 activity. They lived on perfectly happily. How? Because the thyroid produced enough T3 direct to make up for any deficiency in T4 conversion elsewhere in the body. THAT demonstrates the power of thyroidal T3 production.
