Welcome to the thyroid forum happyinlove

my Tsh 4 had increased to 38

Can you please explain that for me, I don't understand. Are you saying your TSH result was 4 and it has now increased to 38? Or TSH was 38 and is now 4? Or was this the result for the FT4 test?

A TSH level of 4 or 38 is not a hypERthyroid result, it's hypOthyroid.

Were FT4 and FT3 tested?

When you had your diagnosis of hypERthyroidism before your RAI were thyroid antibodies tested and Graves disease confirmed by positive TSI/TRAb antibodies?

Have you now been prescribed Levothyroxine?

for your info Susie , i just found this by happyinlove in 'replies' to another post :

"I was on 60 mg carbiomeile. At that time I had lost 18 kg in weight in about 6 months and looked gaunt. I was very hyper apparently it was going to affect my heart.it was covid times. no visits to surgery was available. But after the blood test results were sent to my doctor there were urgent messages on my phone to ring the surgery for an appointment

i am so glad I requested the blood test all on my own without just staying at home worrying about it. that is my normal way.

After three months they reduced it to 30 mg a day. I have Graves disease .@On top of Tye 2 diabetes which i've had since 2000.

Now I am taking 25 mg. today i am having a blood test hopefully will k onw if the medication had worked. the consultant i saw in February who reduced my dosage by 5g to 25g a day told me i had this condition in 2012 but it adjusted all by itself ".

If your TSH was 38 that’s far too high, you would be very hypothyroid. Even at 4 it’s questionably high.

When you undergo RAI the thyroid needs to be under control and working. Carbimazole is usually stoppped a week or two prior to RAI appointment to allow uptake of iodine.

So usually TSH is low and thyroid levels are in range & rising from not taking carbimazole.

Often carbimazole is resumed afterwards ( not always). What were the doctors instructions? It can take weeks, months even years and beyond for full effect of the RAI to take effect.

You often don’t know at first as you have a blood test around 6 weeks later to see. Some are very hypo by this stage other are still hyper.

Can you explain what steps were you given.

What was your TSH FT4 & FT3 prior to treatment.

Not what you're looking for?
