Hi everyone I'm new here and I'm new to hypothyroidism although I'm pretty sure I've been suffering with it for some time. If anybody has some advice for me that would be great.

One of the worst things I'm experiencing are mood swings, tiredness which can be very frustraiting to me and joint pain.

Welcome 🙏 This forum is very informative and friendly. The secret to getting better is to find out as much as possible about your condition and how to treat it. It’s very confusing to begin with but the more you read the better the understanding.

Start with the ThyroidUK website then come on here and ask questions. There are some very clever people here who will help.

Let’s start by you letting everyone know what your latest test results are. TSH/FT4/FT3 plus vitamins. Please show the ranges , in brackets,

What medication are you on? For how long?

Tiredness certainly can occur due to thyroid hormone issues.

But don't miss that at least iron deficiency (iron anaemia), low vitamin B12, low folate, and many other factors can cause or exacerbate tiredness. All of which seem to occur frequently in those suffering from hypothyroidism - not necessarily all in one person, though that is quite possible.

Hello Moonflow

Sorry to hear you've been suffering for quite some time. When one is tired, in body and in mind, finding the energy to learn about helpful information, and to take positive actions, can be challenging.

It's not clear from your brief message whether your kind of hypo is Hashimoto's, an auto-immune disease at its core. Quite often people with one auto-immune disease would have the "luck" of having another one. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (the immune system attacking your thyroid glands) often co-exist with rheumatoid arthritis (RA, the immune system attacking your joints).

If your thyroid panel blood test is "positive" to either or both of auto-antibodies for TPO (thyroid peroxidase) and TG (thyroglobulin), then you have Hashimoto's. You can get TPO Ab tested from your GP, upon special request. TG Ab test is only available from private labs, such as Medicheck.

We talk more about medications and supplements in this forum, less about the power of "food as medicine". If you have Hashimoto's, do consider paying attention to Clint Paddison, who has helped numerous patients with RA and related autoimmune disease, to regain wellness.

If you have time to listen to his podcasts, and peruse articles he writes and testimonials by his followers, you will learn much. It is entirely optional to pay to join his program (quite affordable considering the benefits). The packaged information and coaching simply makes the learning more efficient.
