Usually overgrown cuticles are said to either related to skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema or being stressed.

Lots of hand cream every day helps, I use a think balm or rich type hand cream and cotton gloves overnight. I’ve also used socks if gloves in wash.

You can buy cuticle remover creams or liquid & work the cuticle back with tools but start very gently, they bruise much easier than you think. I cut away “hang nails” with cuticle nippers but never the entire cuticle.

Anemia is said to weaken the nail making it soft and can’t end up with grooves and a scooped or spoon like appearance.

Doctors don’t rely on nail signs, or like looking at patients - they prefer to send you away for a blood test & read off a computer screen to find out if you are unwell.
