Normal Procedure with Private Endo

I had a telephone consult with a private endo on 30 June. I received an emailed letter from her the following day detailing our conversation but without any plan in terms of further action or contact. I’ve heard nothing since. Is this normal?

I would say not as most consultants put a plan on the end of their letters. Did they draw any conclusions during your telephone call? Send an email back. You have paid for the right to ask what next steps are.

Hello HU2016 - no, no conclusions, she said she would get the results of a GP blood test the following week through her NHS portal. I heard nothing so sent them to her secretary. I sent an email yesterday asking for a plan, I imagine there’ll be nothing until next week, if at all. Easy money.

Was your private Endocrinologist helpful or are they sticking to NHS guidelines and just going by the TSH?

Hi Lora7again - she didn’t really say anything during the consult other than my thyroid was ‘nice and healthy’ and that even though ft4 was low, some patients sit happily at that. The whole reason I contacted her was because I wasn’t sitting happily! I sent her a copy of my most recent bloods but nothing has come back.

Is your private Endocrinologist also working within the NHS or is he/she private only. Private only are best as they don’t have to follow NHS guides.

Hi McPammy - yes, she’s working in nhs too but her bio says she specialises in thyroid/pituitary/adrenals. I think you’re right, if they are also nhs they seem to be brainwashed.

I'll never go to an endo again. What a load of time wasting specialists. The only time I needed an endo was for my goiter biopsy. Seek out a Dr that focuses on improving your life. When I pay out of pocket that Dr is working for me.

Entirely agree. Hard to find a good one though.
