Santos thyroid eye disease and Graves disease are caused by antibodies attacking the thyroid tissue and the tissue around the eyes. Although they are caused by the same autoimmune condition they are independent of each other so they don't necessarily both get worse or go into remission at the same time. You would need to get professional advice on whether or not to go ahead with your eye treatment.
3. My endocrinologist said that my blood work now shows normal thyroid levels. Why am I still having problems with my eyes?
In thyroid eye disease, the eye findings often do not closely mirror the patient's endocrine status. Although the immune process affects both the eyes and the thyroid, the two processes are often out of sync with each other.
My issue developed after the RAI and ran about 3 years behind my initial symptoms of Graves.
