Morning, I have had under active thyroid for years, then all of a sudden it went high, went on carbimazole but getting lumps and rashes all over body and in mouth. Just been told it's gone back under but they still keeping me on the carbimazole as it will go over again. Anyone have this problem? Lost my hair during this and alot of weight. Maureen

It is my understanding that you cannot go from hypo to hyper yet you seem to have been treated as if you have. You may have needed less levo.

You should post your results for TSH,FT4,FT3, B12,D3,ferritin and folate for comment. Having Hashimotos can cause fluctuations ,I have seen the term thyroid storm used but I am no expert.

You can go from hypo to hyper, and back.

It is nonsensical using carbimazole to make you hypothyroid!

Can you debate this with greygoose?

You may have hyper-type results - but we would need to see them to be sure - but it's not true hyper in that your thyroid is over-active, so carbi is the wrong treatment. Have they tested any of your antibodies? If not, and it were me, I would refuse to continue with the carbi until they do.

Problem is it seems I wasn't under but they were treating me for years for under. Then I went over and had to stop the tablets and my levels went up over 45. Then on carbimazole it dropped to 9 then went under. They havent sent the results as I am having bloods taken every month at the hospital as the hospital is dealing with it now not the doctors. I have PBC also and the tablets has made my liver results worse.

You're still entitled to a print-out of your results, even if they are done at the hospital. The law says so. Anything we say will just be guessing without seeing the results.
