Hashimoto.voice are wondering if people are not joining the study because they don't know if they have Hashimoto's. We know that many people weren't actually diagnosed. Therefore, they have added some more categories so there are now 6 choices.

To participate, here's what you have to do:

1. Record the following text onto your mobile phone or on:

online-voice-recorder.com/

Who’s more important?

A very long time ago, all the parts of the body decided to get together and have a little meeting. They wanted to decide once and for all, which body part was more important.

The eyes were the first to speak. They said, “We see everything. We know what’s coming. Without us, you’d be wandering through life without seeing the beauty all around.

The ears jumped in and said, “That’s crazy, we’re so much more important than you. Without us, you’d never be able to hear music or the sound of a baby crying.

Then the mouth started to speak, and it said, “You’re both wrong. Everything comes through my door. Without me, you’d never be able to eat or drink.

The nose was quiet up to this point, listening to what the other body parts had to say. Finally it jumped in and said, “ Have you ever smelled a rose in full bloom? Or the incredible scent of freshly baked cookies? Clearly, I’m way more important than all of you.

The body parts went on and on like this all day and night until they were absolutely exhausted and had nothing left to say.

Then finally they heard a voice that was both soft like a whisper, and loud like thunder. It was the heart speaking. It said, “My dear brothers and sisters, we are all family, all equal, all important.

The body parts knew that the heart was telling the truth, they were filled with joy and peace, and they never argued again.

2. Once you have recorded the text, click "save" and it will be downloaded to your device. Save it to a folder where you can access it easily.

4. Start an email to: info@hashimoto.help

5. Attach the audio file

6. Include in the email which group you belong to:

a) Diagnosed with Hashimoto thyroiditis

b) Suffering from non-specific complaints and/or subclinical hypothyroidism,

subclinical Hashimoto thyroiditis

c) Diagnosed with hypothyroidism (antibodies not tested)

d) Diagnosed with hypothyroidism (antibodies tested: low)

e) Diagnosed with hypothyroidism (antibodies tested: high)

c) Healthy with no thyroid and autoimmune condition

7. Also include in the email your bank details to receive the €15 or alternatively, you can inform them that you would like to donate it to Thyroid UK (which will be most gratefully received).

I'm interested in doing this, but I'm not sure where I fall on this - I have antibodies, but I don't need medication at the moment, so is that subclinical?

Do you have any symptoms?

Some minor ones (I'm controlling them with diet). TSH and T4/T3 levels have always been pretty much optimal, so I just don't know where I fall.

It's difficult isn't it? Perhaps b)? You can put a comment in your email and then they will let you know if it's wrong.

Will try that, thanks :)

My voice is very different now since being on thyroid medication than it was before medication. Also, before medication I was a smoker. So really I don't see how a recording of my voice now would be useful. Maybe I'm just not understanding the point of this?

I'd do it anyway :) If people don't send anything in because they think their voice will skew the results, then the study won't give an accurate picture.

I'm going to hold off a few days because hayfever has struck, and my voice is husky, but if you're not affected by hayfever, go for it!

I have Hashimoto's, now under good control, with Levothyroxine, T3, vitamin supplements and gluten and soya free diet

I would be surprised if my voice is affected now. It was in the past

All the more reason to do the study, I think!
