Hi all, since my previous posts, I haven’t changed anything in my medication. I don’t feel great but I also wasn’t advised to do more on the medication. Now im trying to be more active, running used to be my thing, and im struggling to get into it, as in evenings I feel more tired. Im on gluten free diet, and I watch what I eat, but I can’t seem to loose the excess weight i have gained since diagnose(Hashimoto).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Exercise is great but don’t over go it. Running might work for you but for people with low metabolism - ie Hastimotos - high intensity exercise like running can cause a stress reaction increasing the retention of fat around the vital organs. I was once told it’s 20% exercise and 80% food. So maybe see a nutritionist after doing a food diary for a couple of weeks. I do things like yoga and BodyPump for weight loss and joint health. It’s lower intensity so doesn’t cause that lift in cortisol that we don’t want. I do YouTube yoga and other workouts at home which makes it a lot easier to get going as I don’t have to leave the house!
Hi charlee23, I had hashimotos for 10 years and was not diagnosed till last year( found a fabulous endocrinologist) even though I had hypothyroidism.
Struggled for years with the weight even I was active and clean diet. Didn’t over eat at all.
Endocrinologist put me on victoza and I have now lost over 2 stones! It maybe worth persuing to give your metabolism a boost. Don’t give up!! And good luck xx
Are you in the UK? Are you able to pm the name of your Endo? Thanks and well done on the weight loss, I've put over 3 stone and I'm desperate to lose at least 1!
Found this on Google: The higher 3-milligram dose, approved as a weight loss drug and sold as Saxenda, produces more weight loss than the lower 1.8 mg. dose, approved as a diabetes treatment and sold as Victoza.
If the human subject is a poor converter, possibly this treatment would not help him/her to lose weight. But who the heck wants to lose weight by getting injections?
Be careful when taking Victoza, it’s damaging to the kidneys. Some diabetics take it to help blood sugar control, there are warnings related to this drug. Doctors always want to take the easy way out, just to pacify their patients, instead of getting to the root of the problem. They prefer to put bandaids on wounds before addressing the real issues. Thyroid sufferers don’t need weight loss drugs, they need doctors to be more sympathetic, ones that will help them sort out their thyroid issues.
I hope i’m not interfering, don’t want to come across as being judgemental. I too have gained an enormous amount of weight since my thyroidectomy 18 months ago, I eat very healthy but not able to do any exercise because I have no energy. I definitely will try the “ you tube” yoga. Thanks!!!
Hi rosebud, I have regular blood tests for kidney and liver functions, and regular appointments with my gp and endocrinologist,
My endocrinologist knows the risks etc, and we made the decision together. So I’m not worried. But if you are offered victoza you should consider all the facts. X
Charlee my experience has been that endocrinologists know more about what you need and what will work, your doctor practices general medicine - gp. I also know how the emotions and other people’s stories can either uplift you or bring you down,
What works for one person may not work for another.
I was at the end of my thether, thought my normal life had gone. Please keep looking and asking for help, sooner or later you will get what you need. Remember everybody has a story, and an ending, as do you.
I've veen struggling with my weight fir the last 5 years. No help from Dr who blames it on the menopause.
After much research and optimizing my meds with the lovely people here I'm finally losing weight.
I've lost around 12kg since september last year. Along the road I've learnt that what works for others won't work for me. LCHF is the only thing that has worked for me have you tried this? I've learnt that my body just cannot burn carbs anymore.it also fits well with being gluten free. And while many people have a cheat day and still lose weight. I absolutely cannot!
My weight loss has been slow, but I have to admit that I haven't been 100% faithful to carb counting. Sometimes I sneak a french fry, or every couple of months might treat myself to a Junior size (about 1/2 cup) Frosty from Wendy's. Nevertheless my oncologist complimented me today for having lost 5 pounds since my last annual visit. Little does she know that I lost 10 and put back 5. Anyhow, it has been easier to stick to Low Carb since my GP gave me a trial of T3. I'm just in my second month. If you are on Facebook, there are several groups where folks post recipes. One such is LOW CARB RECIPES CLUB. Also, Keto is pretty much the same thing, although they want you to go for a lower count of carbs per day. Search on Facebook for "keto science alliance food & recipes"
