How refreshing to find a specialist who actually knows how to diagnose a patient with hypothyroidism without the need for blood tests.

All doctors knew ALL symptoms before the introduction of levo and tests and prescribed NDT on a trial basis.

Nowadays it seems to be only the TSH which is the priority test when it is from the pituitary gland and not the thyroid gland. Considering the amount of symptoms there are it would be hard to find a doctor who knew more than a few symptoms but would still not prescribe if the TSH 'isn't high enough'.

Yes, seen this before. But, given that there was no treatment for hypothyroidism at the time, and that she lived to the ripe old age of 63 - not bad for the time - is it really likely that she had 'severe hypothyroidism'? Seems a bit doubtful to me.

As it's a painting rather than a photo this Drs opinion is just that, it's ridiculous diagnosing a disease from a painting 🙄

... on the other hand before blood tests - all diagnosing was by observing clinical signs. I often see what I perceive to be Hypos sitting in the audiences of Question Time and other TV programmes

Seeing actual people or photos maybe but not a painting which is an interpretation of how the artist sees it, who knows he may have had bad eyesight !
