Hashimoto's and high levels of LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol).

Diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 5 years ago, but was treated for hypothyroidism for about 25 years before that. Family history of hypothyroidism as well as Graves's.

That being said, I've been told by my doctor that the Hashimoto's may play into the cholesterol numbers. He is also concerned about my B-12 numbers so did testing to check that. Waiting for those results.

Anyone else have insight into or experience with Hashimoto's and high cholesterol, particularly LDL?

Nothing to do with Hashi's, it's low T3 (hypo) that causes high cholesterol. High cholesterol used to be how they diagnosed hypo. :)

What you require is a Full Thyroid Function Test. The earliest possible and fasting. Also allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of thyroid hormones and test and take afterwards.

Ask for, or get a private test from one of our two labs (pin-prick home tests so make sure you are well hydrated a couple of days before).

TSH, T4, T3,Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.

GP should test b12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Get a print-out of your results with the ranges and post for comments. We actually need cholesterol for our bodies. Undertreated hypo does increase cholesterol but optimum meds reduce it.
