Food poisoning gives rise to hyperthroidism - Thyroid problems

Hi, I was very interested in hypothyroidism. I had severe food poisoning from sampling a cheese in a deli at Woolworths I’m in Oz. I had to go to the doctor several times and for the last time. My actual doctor noticed my protruding thyroid gland in my neck, she didn’t even believe I had food poisoning. I hadn’t seen her initially, they did a sample and named the problem. She said these are common in people. Anyway, my Dad did have this condition at a similar age to myself. My theory is that the severe food poisoning weakened the bodies immune system and caused the thyroid problem. Now a year later and seeing the specialist many times, its managed with one tablet a day a day. He now calls it graves disease with multinodular goitre.

How are you and your symptoms?

Did anyone get their illness from severe food poisoning?
