l'm struggling with taking my levo at the same time due to bad sleeping pattern which is something else l struggle with. However, l do take it on an empty stomach and 4 hours away from other medicine . l'm concern that not taking it at the same time will make it less effective . Advice please!

What sort of time difference are you talking about?

I take mine during the early hours of the morning when I need a bathroom trip; however that can be 3am or 6am or anywhere in between.

It not essential to take it at exactly the same time every day, just do the best you can and don't worry as long as you are taking the correct amount.

The time doesn't matter as long at it isn't close to a large meal, coffee or certain medicines. You can take it at bedtime if that's easier.

Levo is T4, the storage form of thyroid hormone. As long as your T4 levels are reasonable your daily dose is just keeping your stores topped up ready for use when needed rather than imediate use. This means that you do have quite a bit of leeway. I work rolling shifts so when I was still on levo it was impossible to take it the same every day, unless I set an alarm on lates, took it and went back to sleep. I tried just taking it when I woke up (or going to bed on nights) and didnt find it caused a problem, presumably as the extra hours were whilst I was asleep so not using much hormone anyway. I am now on NDT which is far more sensitive as it is mostly T3 but I still get away with some time variance.

The trick is to find a routine that works for you, I have to take a load of supplements too, some of which conflict, so i sat down with pen and paper and worked out the easiest way to fit things in on the three different shifts or rest days.

I’ve been taking my levo for 4 years now, never at the same time, and my levels have kept stable. Just like SeasideSusie, I take it on an empty stomach, in the middle of the night, as I go for a bathroom break, anytime between 3am and 9am. My endo told me it makes no difference when I take it as long as it’s on an empty stomach, I wait 1 hour to eat afterwards, and 4 to take any supplements. It’s been working great for me!
