What are the alternatives to Levothyroxine, please?
Liothyronine (T3).
Prescription desiccated thyroid (e.g. Nature-Throid, Armour Thyroid, etc.).
Non-prescription desiccated thyroid with known potency (e.g. Thai products like Thyroid S and Thiroyd).
Non-prescription desiccated thyroid with unknown potency usually sold as dietary supplements.
Various combination medicines which include levothyroxine and liothyronine - of which there are a few but none in the UK.
Pretty much they can be summed up as some T4, some T3 or some T4 and T3.
Silverfox13,
If you tried all 4 makes of UK Levothyroxine and couldn't tolerate them ask your GP to prescribe liquid thyroxine.
NDT isn't licensed for UK use so is rarely prescribed on NHS.
Liothyronine (T3) is so expensive in the UK that it's difficult for new patients to get it prescribed. GPs are supposed to refer patients to endocrinology for an endo to recommend whether T3 is required.
T3 and NDT can be sourced online without prescription. If you want this Write a new post asking members to send you a private message where to source it. If you say how much Levothyroxine you were taking I can advise the equivalent T3 or NDT dose.
