I have been prescribed Levothyroxine (euthyrox) finally but also a beta blocker egilok. Do I take the levothyroxine together with the beta blockers or take the beta blockers separate. Forgot to ask the doctor or they might have said but I don't remember. Thanks

Suzanam Separately. Levo should be taken on it's own, two hours away from any other medication (some may require longer).

It is my understanding that beta blockers and thyroxine medications interact because they compete for the available thyrobinding globulin (TBGs). Therefore it doesn't matter when you take them because the thyroxine will always be present in your system (it has a half life of ~7 days). Why are you taking beta blockers, can you fix that problem some other way so that you don't have to take them?

Not really. The endo and the cardiologist said they have to prescribe me them because I already have palpitations and me taking levo can accelerate my metabolism and cause more palpitations. They said after my tsh reach the correct levels I would have to slow come off the beta blockers because we also want to conceive. This is what they suggested.

Got it. That is a hard problem to solve and I have no suggestions because I know nothing of the metabolism of the heart. I get palpitations sometimes but that is when I have taken too much T3. I have to cut one of my (NDT) pills down to one half and that is not very accurate, one half just disintegrates, when I take a bigger portion I get palpitations, when I take a smaller portion I do not. But there is a lot more to the heart than how much T3 it is getting, so I do not know what to suggest. If I were in your situation I would start reading up on the functioning of the heart and, of course, the endocrinological system. It will be very difficult and take a lot of dedicated time but if nothing else it would let you know what questions to ask each doc. and give you some control over the situation.

What I don't understand is that she put me on 12.5 ug for only 3 days then 25ug for 10 days, 25+12.5ug for 10 days, 50 ug 10 days and then 50+12.5ug until I have my check. Is that increase ok or is too fast. I saw others that increased a lot slower. I just start my first dose this morning. Felt ok today. Just trying to figure out this hypothyroidism I have to live with.
