Currently on 125mg levothyroxine and have been for years. Results back after feeling awful and now on 125/150 alternate days and a months worth of folic acid as folate low. Suggested I only need one months worth to put it right.
Grateful for any views?

Many of us with Hashimoto's or hypothyroid have a problem with folic acid - it may not show up when were young but it gets worse as we grow older. Here in the states my doctor did a DNA test - a limited one but nevertheless one that showed I had a genetic weakness towards metabolizing folic acid. So all the folic acid that I've been taking all these years at the very least was not doing any good and maybe doing harm. The DNA testing showed that I'm part of 30% of the population that has this inability to metabolize and or genetic weakness .
The results of it all was that he prescribed for me something called Methyl Protect. It is a proprietary blend put out by Xymogen. It contains folate as calcium folinate and Quatrefolic (Xymogen trade marked) - The label says this "increases bioactivity trimethyl glycine ". This proprietary blend also includes B12, B6 and B2. The label goes on to say "these five nutrients provided in activated forms support and enhance methylation and overall cardiovascular health."
So again I was amazed at the genetic knowledge that 30% of the population has this inability to metabolize folic acid - equally amazed that there is a calcium folinate that can be used as a substitute. I have been taking it for about three weeks now and it's amazing at the difference that it makes . This doctor is a functional doctor in the United States . Lots and lots of people travel from all over the United States to go to see him . He is a wonderful healer .
For what it's worth and yet another piece to the puzzle. I do believe genetic testing is going to make a huge difference in the way many illnesses are treated and not a moment too soon.
