Hi I am on 150 Levo for quite a while now. I forgot to take med one night this week. I felt great all of the next day! had loads of energy I didn't feel down & slept well minus my horrible nightmares which incidentally I have been disrupting my sleep since I started on Levo. My mind was so clear I could focus on everything & everything fell into place that day. I decided to skip the Levo that night and go back to taking it in morning just to see how I'd feel. Again I had a normal night's deep sleep minus any horrible nightmares. I had to take it at 6.30 am the next day as had to be out early. By approximately 4pm I was in a state of collapse I was extremely down couldn't care less about anyone or anything. I didnt sleep well that night either despite the fact that I was so exhausted plus I was perspiring profusely. Before Levo thankfully I didn't suffer from depresdion. Just observing the pattern my life had taken since starting on this poison!!! I wonder have any of you experienced similar symptoms?

Many many people find stopping Levo initially makes them feel good but it is only ever short lived.

We struggle to convert Levo. Many need some T3 as well. But first essential to get vitamin levels tested and improve if too low

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested. If so post results

Do you also have high thyroid antibodies? You need to know. Did GP test these? If not ask that they are tested.

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known as autoimmune thyroid disease). About 90% of hypothyroidism in UK is due to Hashimoto's.

Hashimoto's affects the gut, very often leading to low acid, low vitamin levels and leaky gut.

Great film definitely shows why just testing TSH is inadequate

Always take Levo on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after. Many take on waking, but it may be more convenient and possibly more effective taken at bedtime

Many people find Levothyroxine brands are not interchangeable. Once you find a brand that suits you, best to make sure to only get that one at each prescription.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and if taking Levo don't take it in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after.

Had a full run of bloods all other levels were within normal range.

Within normal range is not necessarily the same as optimal

Post your results including ranges in a new post and members can advise

If you have Hashimoto's (high antibodies) then changing to gluten free diet may be very beneficial

Very very many of us here find it really helps and is actually essential to be gluten free

I don't feel right on levo about 40 mins after taking it ,I can't concentrate, fuzzy head ,tired I took my dose late Friday so I could take my daughter to get her school uniform.

I saw an endo in April and she said my symptoms were down to not taking enough levo ,I had stopped because I was suffering with vertigo it became better but didn't go completely.

I was upped to 100mcg 8 weeks ago and after 2 weeks it came back and hasn't left been the worst 6 weeks holiday I've ever had I've been increased to 125mcg this week I'm praying it will go on my 2nd lot of vertigo tablets and sometimes they work (a bit) and yesterday didn't do anything but on the plus side my fatigue is gradually going or should I say replaced with blurred vision ,light headedness and being off balance.

Sounds like low B12 - get your vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 checked by GP. Make sure to get actual results and ranges

Do NOT supplement any B vitamins first or test is waste of time

Same thing applies, if you have Hashimoto's , also called autoimmune thyroid disease (high antibodies) hidden food intolerances may be causing issues, most common by far is gluten. Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms and eventually start to lower antibodies. Very very many of us here find it really helps and is essential to be gluten free

I don't think you'd have abosrbed the levo in 40 mins - more likely to be a reaction to one of the fillers in the tablet.

I said to the endo I thought the fillers didn't agree with me and she wasn't having any of it I stick with wockhardt but as I've hit the 100mcg the fatigue has lifted a lot and vertigo got worse.

Well, she's not an allergy specialist. so ... You could try taking an antihistmaine an hour before the levo and see if it makes any difference (and yellow card the brand that is making you feel unwell). It's also a good idea to make sure that all your supporting nutrients are optimal and get cortisol tested (Genova saliva test) to see if that is a problem as that can often make it very hard to raise dose without feeling appalling. Low cortisol can cause dizziness (vertigo is the thing that makes makes everything spin round rather than just extreme dizziness), but I had both vertigo and dizziness with low cortisol.

I normally take antihistamine all the time I've had to stop taking them since Wednesday as they can interfere with the meds I'm taking for the vertigo I've suffered really bad this year I have an appointment for allergies beginning of December

Are you taking any other medication at least two hours away from your thyroid meds?

Meg17 profile image
Meg17

Hi Yes two if not 3 hrs after taking Levo. As I take this other med in morning I decided after sometime to switch over to taking Levo at night - depending on my daily schedule it was not always possible to wait two hours at least in morning - I needed to take it before I left my home. Incidentally I checked out the drug interaction menu! & my other med is not listed as one of the culprits! Thanks.
