Hi: Hi guys. Im Kasia. Diagnosed with hypo in... - Thyroid UK
Hi
Hi Kasia, welcome to the forum.
If you have any questions, just ask away, members are happy to help.
Yes i have questions. I visited my GP today as I wasnt feeling ok. I wanted refferal letter for endycronoligst but she refused. What can I do?
As SlowDragon has mentioned test results, for starters it would be a good idea to post them on the forum (with reference range) for comments.
Why aren't you feeling OK, it's still early days so you wont have reached your optimum dose yet. It takes a while, hormones have to be built up gradually, you can't rush this. So it will take a while for your symptoms to improve. Each increase in Levo takes about 6 weeks for the full effect to be felt.
Repeat tests and increases in dose of Levo by 25mcg should be done every 6 weeks until your symptoms abate and you feel well.
The aim of a hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or below or wherever it is needed for FT4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their reference ranges, if that is where you feel well.
It may be a bit early for a referral to an endo. I expect your GP wants to see how you respond to Levo first. If you don't do well it might be an idea to refer you at a later date.
It's recommended to take Levo on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after food, with a glass of water only, no tea, coffee, etc. Also keep away from supplements and any other medication by at least two hours, four hours for some.
Have you had thyroid antibodies tested?
It's a good idea to get vitamins and minerals tested too, they all need to be at optimal levels for thyroid hormone to work so ask for Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin to be tested.
When having thyroid tests, always book the very first appointment of the morning, fast overnight (water allowed) and leave off Levo for 24 hours. This is a patient to patient tip and gives the highest possible TSH which is needed when looking for an increase in meds or to avoid a reduction.
When you were diagnosed do you have test results before you were started on thyroxine. Ideally you would have had TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested, plus thyroid antibodies
What dose were you started on?
You should have had blood retested 6 weeks after starting dose? Has this been done?
If not, have you got a blood test form from GP to get this done?
Hi folks. Thank you for your help. I been diagnosed on june. Tsh 11. Started with 50mg levo. Done another test afer few weeks. Now I just started 75mg. I am feeling weird. My headaache is incredible. I had dizzines. I was afraid really.
