Can we talk - painful feet?

Has anyone found that their feet are in dreadful pain?

Is it too little thyroid meds? Or perhaps too much?

Any thoughts?

I used to have that when I got up in the morning to the extent it was really painful to put one foot in front of the other. It has eased now that I'm also taking T3 with my T4 and wear support socks at night. Whether they really help or not I have no idea.

Hi Joesmum

What sort of pain are you getting in your feet? I used to suffer with Plantar Fasciitus (sorry if not spelt correctly!) which i believe is quite common amongst us low thyroid people according to a osteopath i saw who felt there was some connection...

Hi. This is my first post as I'm new to the site. I have Hashimotos and was diagnosed 2 years ago. I live in France so blood tests, men's, etc are a breeze compared to the U.K. About 9 years ago I had a severe case of P.F. I had no knowledge of Hashimotos or thyroid problems so didn't make the connection to hypothyroidism. I had to have expensive insoles made but this didn't help very much. The only thing that helped was rolling my feet over a tin of beans 3 or 4 times a day. I know it sounds mad but after a week I had no problem and now if I'm on my feet a lot and I feel the muscle contracting I repeat the process and it disappears. Hope this helps.

Sorry - that should read 'melds' not 'men's'!

I have had terrible painful feet/legs. I did recent experiment reducing T4 which really helped foot pain, but TSH went far too high & FT3 far too low. Became very unwell, seriously upset adrenals. Had to put T4 back up & now recovering, but feet now bad again.

As I pay for full thyroid tests, I have been able to clearly show falling FT3. Endo has agreed I am about to start trial of reduced T4 plus small amount T3

So in answer to your question I think it's possibly caused by too much T4. But when on T4 only, reducing T4 to a level that improves foot issue it is likely to mean under medication, high TSH, adrenals stressed, low FT3

I've got hyperthyroidism and before it was diagnosed I was getting terrible burning pain in both my feet. It's calmed down almost totally now that I'm taking PTU.

Are you hyper or hypo? I think both can cause strange pains and neurological symptoms. The GP gave me an X-ray to rule out trapped nerves etc. which might be helpful if you're trying to confirm it is a thyroid problem?

In my opinion painful feet (and other body parts) can be due to a combination of neurological problems caused by thyroid and the body just generally not repairing itself very well because of messed up thyroid levels (meaning sports and other activities take more toll than they should)

I had a lot of pain in my feet especially in the evenings and had to sit with a cushion under my feet. These symptoms have disappeared since I started on t3. They improved straight away I then increased my D3 and started taking magnesium and the symptoms went away altogether.

I've had painful feet recently, but since I started taking vitamin B12 tablets, they are pain free! Worth trying 😀

Sorry so late replying. I too had plantar fasciitis and believe that it is related to thyroid problems. Just one of the many problems we have to put up with. I used insoles in my shoes and massaged the soles of my feet every evening with a massage roller by pressing down really HARD and rolling the massager backwards and forwards. The problem eventually got better, but it comes and goes - perhaps depending on my TSH levels?
