Hit With Carbimazole!

Hi everyone

I have just been diagnosed with Thyrotoxicosis and been prescribed 5 mg of Carbimazole which has got off to a bad start.

I was pretty sick with it for two days and my doctor has cut my dose to 2.5 mg. I was just wonderingoing if drinking wine with it caused the reaction.

Will see how I get on with the new dose :)

In what way did it affect you precisely? Might be an idea to stay off the alcohol until you see how the Carbimazole affects you. It can cause problems in some people, itchiness, low WBC, liver problems.

2.5mg is a very low dose, if you still get problems your GP could change the medication to PTU.

Hi Silver_Fairy

It gave me severe headaches and made me sick as well as making me feel a hey and unwell :)

It mimicked being hungover but I didn't have any more wine and still felt the same the day after.

I will stay off the alcohol and see how it goes. Will do me good :)

My doctor said if I still have problems he will refer me back to the Endocrinologist who prescribed it.

It appears that nausea and headaches are a side effect of Carbimazol (I didnt suffer anything acute from taking it). If it carries on I suggest you go back to your GP, dont let him fob you off. I presume you have another appointment anyway with the Endo?

Yes thanks I am due to see the Endocrinologist in about 5 weeks :)

My doc said to come back and see him if I still have problems but to go back up to 5 mg in a week if it settles down OK by then :)!

I had an Ultrasound Scan and they found a load of nodules on my thyroid.

Have to have further tests.

See what happens.
